Bio:
Steph Taylor has been described as a musical poet, creating a complete sensory experience through sound. There is no real way to pigeonhole this multi-instrumental artist, with a uniquely percussive approach to piano complimented by a flirtatious guitar style. Her smoky soulful voice lends itself to the emotional quality of her music. And while her presence is undeniably striking, her humility tends to match her humanity when she is on a stage.
Born in North Miami Beach, this 25-year-old Florida native has been playing to a dedicated fan base since she was 16, playing sold out shows at venues such as the Orlando House of Blues and The Lizard Lounge, Cambridge. After spending two years studying English at the University of Florida, Steph packed her bags and moved to Boston, MA to study at Berklee College of Music. She spent most of her time honing her craft while playing numerous venues throughout the Northeast.
Her 2003 debut album For Me has been hailed by the Independent Florida
Alligator as a rollercoaster of keyboard and guitar that engages the
mind and the heart. She causes the keyboard to come alive Taylors new
album Between Ground and Sky exhibits a more
comprehensive understanding of herself as an artist. Creating music
that is not confined by the boundaries of any specific genre, this new
album contains elements of indie rock, contemporary folk, and pop,
while not tasting like any one particular genre.
More recently, Steph has begun working on a new record that showcases 12 new songs as well as her new sound with Miami's hottest drummer, Nabedi Osorio. They have been taking Miami by storm playing out live as a power duo. You can expect to hear anything from melodic piano movements overlaying drum and bass beats to guitar driven rock songs reflecting that haunting and dark sound that Steph Taylor is notorious for capturing. The addition of her new drummer has created an even more captivating performance, where audience members have been known to sit watching in silent awe to then get up and shake it like a polaroid picture.
Over the next three months (March-June), Steph Taylor is embarking on a solo national tour, which may very well be her final national tour as a solo artist before she and Nabedi take the world by storm! i have this terrible recording on my phone from when you played at the highbury... it sounds like this: BAWRARAHHAAGFGHASHA.... but underneath the massive amounts of clipping and chatter, i can still hear you playing "give ourselves away"... so i keep it. hope you are doing well, lady.
The sets i have seen you play with Nabedi have been fantastic - wishing you two all the best for the tour you have coming up! Off to London tomorrow and need to get my t-shirts - please call when you are up so that i can pop by this evening and get them - K
Just wanted to say that I've been listening to your album a lot lately- and I love it! Can't wait to see you play next time your in Austin, or next time I'm in FL. Peace.
Well, it's official...you are contagious. I have just recently been diagnosed with the ST disease. Symptoms include but are not limited to: waking up in the middle of the night to pee and realizing that your humming "loving expressions" at 3:27am....inablilty to take CD out of player...telling everyone you know about Steph Taylor so enthusiastically that they look at you like you have 3 heads. Other symptoms may include singing into a hairbrush in front of a mirror as seriously as you can while playing the air piano.
Dependency on any and all of ST's music is a serious condition. Please consult your stereo if conditions worsen.
you guys made me so happy last nite... couldnt have asked for a better band to play our last show... (sniff)...much love and respect sister! Will see you at either PS14 or New Moon...looking forward to it!..xox L
