Steppin' Records is one of the fastest growing jazz/smooth jazz record labels in the music industry. With new label president Cal Bennett at the helm, Bennett, as well as Steppin' Records promises to bring the music industry a strong roster of jazz and smooth jazz artists. The labels' goal is to not only bring more awareness to this American style of music, but to also prove that the genre is still alive and well.

Cal Bennett has been in the entertainment industry since 1971 when he was the featured saxophone soloist on Isaac Hayes’ Academy Award- winning Shaft LP. Cal has also performed and/or recorded with Carl Anderson, Ice Cube, The Funk Bros., Bobby Lyle and the Agape International Choir, just to name a few. In 1996 his debut CD, “A stolen Moment”, soared to number 11 on the Billboard Jazz Contemporary Chart. In 1997 Cal served as musical director for Toni Braxton on her debut on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In 2003 Cal performed at the Playboy Jazz Festival opening for the likes of Al Jarreau. In 2006, Cal again performed on The Tonight Show, this time as the featured soloist for music taken from the movie “Tsotsi” which won an Academy Award in the Best Foreign Film category with South African troubadour Vusi Mahlasela. In addition, he is the featured jazz artist in the Starbucks print campaign, 'Hear Music'. Cal also has several years of corporate experience as an advertising director for Code Magazine for Larry Flynt Publications. Cal is also a regular soloist for the LAKERS performing the National Anthem at some of their home games.

When you think of the word "jazz", it brings up several emotions in the minds of many listeners of this genre music. One is that "it is my father's music"...another is "I don't really understand the music - it is too complicated". Well TYAD Music Group (TMG) Founder/CEO Jerry Holden wants to open the minds and ears of music lovers by introducing a new genre of music called "FRESH". In the coming months, you will start to hear about Fresh through the labels' branding of the music and its newly signed artists.
