We are Stepwise, a group of friends from Sheboygan, WI with a vision. Hopefully we don’t sound like any normal rock band. Hopefully we sound like something you’ve never heard before. There are a million bands out there, so what makes us different?
We believe music is more than what you hear, but it is what you feel. You
may be able to relate to music, but you will never be able to experience it until you see it performed live, right in front of you. Seeing live music allows you to emotionally connect with the artist. That is what we believe is the purpose for creating it. Music is an expression, it’s a release. It’s a chance to let your guard down and expose your true emotions. This is much more than playing music. This is our release, this is our expression, this is our passion, this is our therapy. This is a chance to do what we love.
It all started right here in Sheboygan with Steve playing guitar in a band called Impulse. Mike, a good friend of Steve’s, always came to their shows to
support them. Brett, Steve’s younger brother, with his friends Brickey and Spurt, also came to all the shows. Brett started playing the bass and jamming with Brickey, his long-time friend and music-loving guitarist. The three friends decided to try to start their own band with Spurt as their singer.
After Impulse broke up in the summer of 2004, Steve and Mike wanted to keep the band alive and recruit new members. In the past, Mike had always talked about getting turntables and being the DJ for Impulse. Steve and Mike were on the search for a drummer and found Ted. Steve and Mike knew Ted from high school and were aware he had some drumming experience. The serious jamming began in August 2004 as they searched for other members to complete their line up. Steve started talking to his brother Brett about maybe playing bass for them. He came to play, and after one practice, they knew he was the one to fill the spot. Because Steve and Mike were friends with Brickey and Spurt too, they decided to combine the two projects. Brickey became the second guitarist and Spurt filled the spot as lead singer. Together, they became Stepwise.
