STEREO FREAKOUT began it's performance career in late 2007 and is currently playing anywhere and everywhere they can sink their original, somewhat hard-to-classify hard-rockin' grooves into...
SFO was created by Jym, Infamous, and Topher Rishel on bass by blending guitar and bass ideas together w/ drums and then shaping the songs, ultimately putting vocal melodies and lyrics to most of the tracks. 5 songs were captured in the summer of 2007 via ADAT in a make-shift, do-it-at-home but not-at-home studio, and then pain-stakingly copied and slang out, totaling over 700 hand-written discs to date. SFO made their debut in the backyard of Jym's house Nov 2007 in front of 40 or so close friends, and was their first time playing w/ Sopko. Dec 2008 marked the first public show at Rooster's in Alameda where SFO drew in over 80 folks, headling the night w/ THE ASSOCIATED, SUPERFINOS VTO (who we've had the pleasure of sharing multiple bills w/ since), and SEX & MACHINES.
In January 2008 SFO went into Cue Production's studio in Concord and recorded two songs- "Stoli Girl" and a new version of "The Way"- releasing these two tracks in a single format. 200 were pressed and distributed, mostly overseas in Africa and Europe. STEREO FREAKOUT continued to play and write new material, gradually moving onto bigger venues like Blakes, The DNA Lounge, and Bottom of the Hill. SFO entered a Battle of the Bands put on by Cleveland based Gorilla Productions in Feb 2009 and was 2 of 9 bands to move onto the finals. The finals then happened back at the DNA in June 2009 and SFO beat out 9 other bands, selling 160 tickets and capturing not only the headlining slot but the crowd and won the night, walking with 500 cash, 20 hours of studio time, a headlining gig back at the DNA, and a submission to a major label. SFO is currently in a nation-wide Battle, competing for a $25,000 record deal, which begins Feb 2010 and is solely determined by online voting.
In July of 2009, after playing Blakes on Telegraph w/ PARADISE, SERENITY NOW! and STAGNANT, (and selling over 170 tix at the door), SFO and Toph parted ways, bringing in Sopko's fellow Clevelander and MCR/Paradise bandmate ETHAN RIDER. The shift was difficult, w/ Toph being a founding member and playing over 30 shows together.
July/Aug 2009 SFO went into San Rafael's POPSMEAR STUDIOS and recorded 5 songs and debuted the EP "If Wishes Were Fishes..." Fri Nov 27th at the DNA Lounge. But just before that SFO began rehearsing with vocalist SAM JOHNSON from recently-disbanded PARADISE & recently formed HANDSOME ROVERS. Sam played his first full show with SFO @ the San Leandro Sausage & Suds festival the first Sunday in Oktober 2009- a festival that is San Leandro's biggest event of the year and pulls in 6,000-8,000 people- but it wasn't until the DNA Lounge show that Sam officially joined the SFO ranks.
And so the next chapter in the SFO saga begins...
