THE STORY begins at the dawn of Hamilton's Junior Boys, whose jittery and unpredictable debut Last Exit was widely praised. Founding member Johnny Dark left the group to pursue other interests, but his mark on underground music had been made. Over the border and to the east, disco singer San Serac was just beginning to mix electronic soul and Ferry-esque vocals; he went on to release the dancefloor smash Tyrant on Output Recordings and later signed on with Edmonton's Normals Welcome label. In 2006 a mutual friend and forward-thinking A&R introduced the two, and Stereo Image was born. THE BAND quickly developed their sound: stripped down and sharp, a futuristic yet timeless showcase of R&B synthetics and radio heart in the proud tradition of Total Contrast, Associates, The System, and Yello. Johnny's old friends at KIN, the label behind Last Exit and his own critically acclaimed solo EP Can't Wait, released the first Stereo Image single Red Nights digitally; the apocryphal 45 nevertheless earned 7" Of The Month in FACT Magazine. The band also received favorable mentions from Pitchfork and Exclaim!, and Dark Chapter was featured on Junior Boys' edition of the renowned Body Language mix series. This spring Stereo Image completed their taught and concise debut S/T. THE ALBUM delivers a 2 step Robert Palmer vision of tomorrow's light rock—from the FM bounce of Strange Life to the icy ballad Your Collapsed State. S/T will be released September 23 on Frog Man Jake in the US and Normals Welcome in Canada; Stereo Image is currently writing new songs and rehearsing for live performances in the fall.
