I started out doing my thing with LSDJ. When my cartridge stopped working I eventually turned to my MIDI gear after a yearlong hiatus, despite the fact that my cartridge was working fine during most of this time period.
I have trouble finding one style I'm comfortable with, so what I produce varies from Drum and Bass, to Hip Hop, to House, to stuff that doesn't really have a category. However they usually do have some sort of 8-bit motif in them, and I always use hardware for everything but drum sounds that are not 8-bit. I prefer the hands-on experience of a real synth any day.
