Sounds Like
Your heartbeat when you're tied to the traintracks by your double-crossing lover and the only thing you see is the bright light shooting at your face, faster than a falling star, and you are too deafened to hear the oncoming engine so you simply listen to the quick panicking thump of your heart.
Or, according to the Sacramento News and Review, "[Sterling Riot's] music can only be described as folk and punk, mixed with trains crashing and dragons dying."
Sterling Riot began in 2005 as a music project of Davis California based singer/song-writer, Rob Roy. Now we are a beautiful cacophony of noise with seven members playing the accordion, banjo, bass, drums, glockenspiel, guitar, and violin.
What you hear on this site are poorly recorded home demos. We are working on four different concept albums at once. We will release a teaser CD-R called "Rough" in l2008, which will include a few tracks from each album.
"Bones Kind of Love" Angsty songs of heart break
"From Sea to Shining Sea" A concept album with songs about 19th century America.
"Chinese Democracy" Songs about the world's moral and political decay.
"Big Moments in Small Hours" Songs with the central thesis of temporality.
Our live shows include history lessons and sing-a-longs but most of all we are a motley crew trying to get the crowd dancin'.
Kevin Wan, the owner of Sophia's Thai Kitchen and Bar in Davis, said our show was the surprising of the season for 2007. We're most often compared to Bruce Springsteen or Against Me! but one reviewer said we sound like the bastard child of Tom Waits and the Rolling Stones. See for yourself.
Thanks for Boss appreciation, even if you were just surfing my MySpace for naked ladies. Lord knows that's about my motivation for everything.
Notice I said "about."
Saturday I was sitting around with an on-again, off-again lover who was telling me his mom used to make him a poppyseed cake every year for his birthday. My mother used to make lemon poppyseed muffins from a mix, but nonetheless, were palatable. Neither the Neb nor I are huge lemon fans, but we're huge lime fans. Thus the lime poppyseed cake with a caramel lime glaze was born.
I made twenty such cupcakes. By Sunday afternoon, all such cupcakes were eaten. Suspend your judgment. They were delicious and I can bake like nobody's business. White elephant cake with whipped white chocolate ganache? Raspberry bread pudding with Chambord sauce? I can do it.
Now, out of these 20 cupcakes, I don't want to mislead. I ate eight of them. Yesterday I was pretty sick. And I threw up while running. Today I woke up and thought, "A cupcake would rule." I am either resilient or kind of slow. If you're lucky, both.
Lovely new tracks. And thanks for the reminder for Free Cone Day. I thought I'd be out of town, but alas I am here until Thursday. Free ice cream for me!
Nice noise. So, you guys need to have a live show before mid April. Not that I'm so bold as to make requests, but I missed March 6 and after that I have to do a buttload of traveling. I want some local color! :-)
Hey Rob! I saw you last month at Open Mic Night (Open Mic is one of my events to take care of at work). Thinking of your performance I can tell what you're talking about with heavy metal influence, and I gotta say, that even though CoHo live is an awkward venue for that type of show, I'm working on making Pub Live the perfect venue for exactly that. We'll see what I can do...but I'd love to see you guys play.
