Manchester, Porto, Zürich, Reims, Geneva, Lisbon, Paris, Montreux, Lausanne, London … No, this is not a list of cities that Paris Hilton would never know how to point out on a map, but some that have had the honour to host STEVANS. It was in the year of our Lord 2003 that Yvan Franel launched the STEVANS adventure while recording demos on his own.
One problem though…Yvan Franel needed to find musicians to make a scene on stage. He stumbled upon an ad from a local bass guitarist in need of a group whose musical influences immediately captivated the vivacious Yvan who decided to contact the latter who answers to the name Bruno Tancredi.
Their combined efforts resulted in a first EP, “The Reversal EP”followed by radio play of their single “Monday’s Wedding” that led to their popularity in the area.
Learning in the following year of the break-up of a local group of well-known popularity, our two accomplices sprinted for the drummer. Thus, John Chirico joined the group and the winning trio was born.
Their first self-titled LP released in September 2006 immediately became a “Couleur3 Selection” and three of its tracks also received play on a number of radio stations. Their collaboration with Bertrand Siffert (producer/sound engineer for the Young Gods) during the recording gave life to an album largely reminiscent of British rock.
Absolutely! The influence of bands like Oasis, Franz Ferdinand and the Stereophonics is felt, which is music to our ears. The melodies are catchy, the lyrics of Yvan alternate between humorous and serious, the rhythm is powerful and the guitar riffs are astoundingly effective.
In short, what are people asking for? Right now, STEVANS is discovering its real identity. Their tunes make it possible for them to open for prestigious artists such as Editors, The Servant (for their entire Swiss tour), Les Rita Mitsouko (also during their complete Swiss tour), Natalie Imbruglia, The Rakes, Kaiser Chiefs, the Automatics, Snow Patrol, the Young Gods… in short, enough to turn a few heads. The album also enables them to export themselves beyond the Swiss border.
In fact, they completed tours in England and Portugal, and France has opened her doors to them.
Renowned festivals give them the opportunity to perform on their stages: Paléo in Nyon, Lucerne’s Blue Balls, the Open Air St Gallen, NRJ Tour, and the Montreux Jazz Festival at which they won first prize of a competition in 2007 resulting in the honour of opening for Deep Purple the following year on the main stage of the Stravinsky Hall.
Why wait any longer to get caught up in the STEVANS frenzy?
