About me:

I'm a retired artist that was formally a musician until I lost my left arm in 1998. Although that doesn't define me I'm a family man trying to do the best job that i can do in what feels like an apathetic world. I love rough, i love soft, i love Jesus Christ and my wife and children. The world is a tough place to be and i've been against the grain my entire life. There've been miracles in my life, proof and reasons for my faith. I've been dead several times with the longest span being well over eight minutes. Before that day there were reservations in my spirit against any type of 'God' or 'Creator' of any kind. When my walking shoes were taken off momentarily as my own spirit drifted into oblivian, it ended up in the loving arms of Jesus Christ. I was cradled in the arms of perfect love and was most content on this. I had no pain or questions because it all made sense to me and for a brief moment I actually felt perfect love. As i was 'sucked back' into my worldly body it wanted to go back and tried several times to do so but lost out to the technology of modern medicine. Later on I was infected with a flesh eating disease and was in a coma for a long time. With this new illness that has a mortality rate of 99.9999999% the good Lord brought me through but with a loss of my left arm, my index and middle fingers of my right hand and all but two toes. My body rebeled against me i guess but the prayers of my family and the chain of prayer that went out was just too much for the Reaper. I was in a coma for several weeks and months as my body grew to baloon size and my extremities turned blue and black and tried dieing. I han Pnemonia(sp?) three times and they tied me up and slit me from wrist to wrist and attempted to allow blood to just run through me in an attempt to clean it. Many things were attempted to no avail. Meanwhile my parents in their 70's, my wife, my son and family and friends were witness to the bloody and gruesome attempts that were feeble as i slid further into darkness. The only thing that continued was prayer all around. People all over the country were praying as friends and family sent my name to be added to prayer lists everywhere. Just when things looked the worse the doctors had an emergency meeting with my wife, my parents and my brother and sister to tell them that i was going to die unless my arm was amputated. They knew that I was an artist and a guitarist and musician that was more than serious about my thirty some years of playing. They had to decide, but they had no choice. It saved me even though they took my two best fingers on my right hand as well as my left arm. They took my toes too. I came back slowly and my delusions had dominated my coma where I was in a battle. Satan and his lil' buddies were trying to get me and my children as i lay in that coma. His demons were like great black male lions and they wanted me and my loved ones. I fought them in my coma, and won life! I had a lot of trouble with the transformation from comatose to amputee and could no longer work. The music that i had played was pretty much over-i thought. All of my equipment and my guitars sat in a corner. What could a man do with three weak fingers? Not much, or so I thought. As i passed the time with crossword puzzles i was able to regain my dextarity in what i had left and began my art again. I began a picture using a fountain pen at the kitchen table and it wasn't as bad as i expected it to be. Each new piece seemed better than the one before it. So i began to process the information that i held inside and kept to myself about all that had happened to me and things began to come out, slowly at first and then it was as if a dam had bursted from within.I have many of these in the pictures section of this site so if you would be interested i'd love for you to see it. The first picture is titled "John's Vision" and it's in black and white. I repainted it later in color with the same name. All of the images were done with three fingers although a few of my older ones may be included as well. Thank you so very much for taking the time to read this. I hope that you see what God has done for me. Because of this my family and i are closer, and i feel closer to Jesus Christ my heavenly Father for not only what He's done but for meeting all of my needs for almost 60 years now and for the blessings and love that are yet to come for all that believe in Him and call out and seek him. I'm still trying to figure out a way to play the guitar again and i think i will be able to one day. I've started Pedal Steel guitar and am a better drummer than before. I only wish that i had realized that God had given me a gift before. I was never satisfied and always wanted to be a better guitarist, painter, son, husband and especially a better father. I was good at all of those things i see now. I wasted a lot of time that could have been used by just doing instead of wishing or seeing what i wasn't. Now i know that through prayer that ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE! May God truly bless you, Steve Pinkerton
