Steve Altermatt, singer, songwriter and guitarist from Golden, Colorado, has entertained audiences from 5 - 5,000 as a solo artist and as a member of the bands ShakeyGround, New West and the Unity Project for 25 years. Raised by two professional vocalists, Steve learned to play guitar as a ten year old. He wrote his first original songs at the tender age of eleven and in high school Steve was the 1 rated tenor in the State of Minnesota for three consecutive years.
In 1986 and 1987, two of his original songs, "Radiance" and "All Inside You" received national radio airplay on Adult Contemporary stations. During this time he was the most requested artist in a one month period on Boulder, Colorado's own KBCO radio. Steve placed 2nd in the 1992 Colorado Composers Classic and was asked to open for Dan Fogelberg’s tour that same year. In 2002, he was asked to audition as a vocalist for Bonnie Raitt’s band after one of Bonnie’s band members heard his gospel performances at a local church. Steve turned down both opportunities, staying home to raise his two children, coach baseball, football & basketball, and basically be a Dad. He lead the local Boulder, Colorado country and rock band ShakeyGround from 2003 - 2005, playing at local bars and clubs throughout the Colorado front range, from Denver to Cheyenne, Wyoming.
After an influential trip to Nashville in 2006, Steve was inspired to record some of his original songs. "Velvet Pictures of Elvis" is Steve's first full length CD and was released in 2008. Finally, Steve is following his dreams and attracting local, regional and national attention as a singer/songwriter! Come back often for new songs that are being recorded this fall, three new videos and more gigs in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and now Nashville, Tennessee! Yee haw!!!
