STEVE BLUNT & FRIENDS: My recordings couldn't have been made without the generous assistance of the following musicians: Brian Coombes (Co-Producer at Rocking Horse Studio), Otis Ball (Guitar), Mike McAdam (Guitar), Glenn Donaldson (Bass Guitar), Joey Pierog (Bass Guitar), Rick Black (Piano/Keyboards), Marty Kelley (Drums and Sometimes Co-Performer), Dave Pierog (Drums), Jim Turmel (Drums), Joseph Carringer (Didgeridoo), Skamasutra: Horn Section, Hundreds of Kids & Families: Singing-Along...and Too Many Others to Name!
Influences
MUCH TO MY DISMAY, my music sounds ALMOST nothing like my all-time favorite folk/rock/pop musicians: The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Velvet Underground, Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, The Pretenders, The Specials, English Beat, The Clash, The Jam, Jonathan Richman, The Roches, Billy Bragg. Instead, my creative muse was warped listening to novelty songs on 70's AM radio: "Boy Named Sue," "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown," "Disco Duck," etc. BUT I LOVE THAT STUFF TOO!
Born in a small Ohio town at the end of the Baby Boom, STEVE BLUNT is a part-time teacher, part-time performer whose job is more full-time fun than most middle-aged persons are allowed to have on a regular basis. With over 20 years’ experience in the arts and education, Steve began creating songs for young people during his tenure as a middle school English teacher. His lively musical performances delight kids and families at schools, libraries, and concert venues throughout New England. Recognized as an educational and entertaining performer, Steve has been selected 8 times for the NH State Library’s “Kids, Books, and the Arts” Program. Both of Steve’s CD’s, “Hang On, Henry!” (2002) and “Outta School!” (2007) are Parents’ Choice “Approved” Award Winners. Other CD’s are: “Kangaroos & Didgeridoos” (2008) with Joseph Carringer and “Let’s Have a Reading Party!” (2009) with Marty Kelley. Steve plans to continue making music and jumping around with kids and families for at least another 40-some years.
Thank you so much for coming out to the last show the other night; it was great seeing you again! It seems every time I check your Space you've just played at a library nearby and I just missed it. I swear I'll catch you one of these times! Keep the music coming; kids these days can hardly appreciate what you're doing as much as their parents - to think I learned to tap my toes listening to Raffi! Ugh....My kids are starting with Yann Tiersen and "Outta School". Hopefully we'll see you again before we have kids!
I miss you, Steve! My favorite new song is "Reading Rocks The Granite State" and I like "Summer Stinks" too. Love Haylee-Lynn I miss Steve. Love Hannah We are looking forward to seeing you soon! Love Tia,Rachel,Haylee,Andrew and Hannah
