Growing up in Allentown,Pennsylvania, Steve saw the sun set on that city ’s heavy industries and a lingering twilight of economic decline and overall uncertainty fell on its streets. The themes of fading hopes and glimmering redemption would follow Steve as much in his life as in his music. The story of Brosky would be written in the smoky air of bars, pubs, and watering holes in the Lehigh Valley and beyond. His first success was in the 80 ’s with a Top 20 regional hit “Do the Dutch", Steve ’s answer to Billy Joel’s“ Allentown ”.They gave the Key to the City to Steve and rumor has it they ’re still pissed at Billy. The buzz and instant name recognition generated from this musical imbroglio became double-edged: this song was novel, but it was far from a novelty song and Steve was far from a novelty act.He would spend the next ten years or so in the penumbra of Hey Now ’s catchy licks. The 90 ’s came as a new era of focus and even greater notoriety for Steve. He released a thoughtful “Limestone and James ”and a greatest hits album. He gained mastery over his demons by coproducing a one man,semi-autobiographical stage show called “Hey Man ”,starring himself. With his release of, “Trouble ”,Steve stands to expose his superb musicianship, his surprising wit and his undeniable appeal to the biggest audience yet. To compare a Brosky to either a Dylan or a Springsteen,as some have tried,is as useless as comparing Dylan to Springteen.
Each artist has their own story, their own voice, and their own sound. One listen of one song, either from his albums or especially from the live shows he still performs every weekend in the Valley, tells you all the legend of Steve Brosky you need to know.
