hell, it's just sessions really! Played for many years with the old Runt o' the Litter .... many years of musical mayhem around the UK and the Continent. Time now for a bit of musical reflecton; occasionally team up with Breagle, and occasional brothers (there are such things where i come from), and venturing out solo after all these years. When it comes to recording, i'm a bit of a control freak, though little brother Huey is determined to civilise me, and process me through his new studio (UNIT 7 STUDIO, BLADNOCH BRIDGE) next time, press-ganging poor passing musicians for their contributions
Influences
open to any .... finally seeing the point of dissonance after more years than i care to admit of good 'ole western harmonies
Sounds Like
wouldn't it be great not to sound like anything at all? we all do though, to some degree or other. The musician himself is probably the worst judge!
two songs from new album 'November Songs', due for imminent release on Distilled Records ..... 17 original tracks, including 5 re-worked irish tunes, smothered in multi-layered guitar work! ......... something else i meant to say about these tunes: I used to do a lot of landscape painting, in oils, and i found a while that perseverance was a good substitute for talent; that if i stuck with a painting for long enough (and it had to be there and then, on the spot) that you could go through a sort of threshold, where things seem to happen of their own volition, almost as though the paint seems self-propelled. And i've always been looking for a musical equivalent, where my rudimentary talent need not limit the creative process. So with the tunes, a multi-track recording machine, and plenty of time for reverie, i think i've at last found a way! i do 90% of it just with the one guitar, a nice little Martin 000 model, and just let the texture build up, until other tunes and rhythms start to emerge ... maybe 20 or 30 tracks, adding and taking away. So the pursuit of that single note, which can be so exciting with a load of good players cranking it up, sort of drifts sideways .... a bit like looking at the landscape around the tune, rather than the note ahead. This is an adventure that i'm just starting on, but i feel there are whole new worlds awaiting discovery! ....My brother Huey has set up a smashing wee studio down here at Bladnoch, with a good 'live' playing area, so the hills (and rivers, woods, pubs etc) are alive with sound of music these days!
I'm also involved with the new Bladnoch Folk and Blues Festival, which we're holding at the Bladnoch Distillery in South West Scotland (just across the river where we all work), August 15th to 17th 2008 ... a great and eclectic line-up, details on www.bladnochfestival.co.uk ......various recording and live playing opportunities throughtout the year too ..... great to see y'all there!

Hey uncle Steve. Glad to be brightening up your day a little. I've obviously progressed from writing songs that could've been penned by Morrissey. Hurrah! Good to see you're still living the dream. Hope life is well up north - been too long since I was last up. Much love to you and all. xx
Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills has selected The Moot as the BBC Upstaged wild card entrant for the next stage of the competition. We need your vote before 11am tomorrow morning, please help! If we win the first stage, we get to play for 6 hours in a glass box in Bristol leicseter square and it's streamed live over the BBC website.
Hello, Steve :) oh, wish You good luck and amazing life this year :) for me, however, they started a bit nervously, as my exam session is now, so i really have to do a lot of work :( but anyway, it's not so bad :)))
hey, I need the help of friends!!! I've got a picture of Cyber goth style dreads in ma "my pictures" album and I need people to go have a look and leave me a comment as to whether you think I should or shouldn't get them done, because I'm doing the dreads thing either way but unsure of if I should have my own hair, which is quite short or get them multicolored ones put in. Thanks for the advice, I'm in need of it, cheers!
Everyones fine down here, almost finnished college for this year and Jenny's home from Uni, I was going to maybe go and visit uncle tom in the six week holidays, drag Jon to France with me for a week or so. XxX
