I struggled to come up with a succinct description of my music for a long time. I finally settled on "eclectic, eccentric, acoustic music". I know it's sounds "icky" but at least it's short & it rhymes...vague yet accurate. You can buy my CDs via www.stevehopkinsmusic.com. If you do, please let me know what you think...gently...or if you have a better description.
I am a native Texan...born & raised.
After spending my childhood in the small north Texas town of Weatherford (hometown of Mary Martin & one of several "watermelon capitals of the world") I attended college in Georgetown & Lubbock, Texas, acquiring a BBA in General Business (I took the first couple of courses in several fields & mastered none...buy low, sell high) with a minor in Philosophy (thus ensuring I wouldn't be bothered by employers rushing to hire me).
I've had a variety of day jobs including janitor, lifeguard, disc jockey in a club (spinning actual LPs), land surveyor, vacuum cleaner salesman, cab driver, waterbed salesman, bank teller, substitute teacher, video store clerk, & seasonal IRS tax examiner. If you can't get some song ideas out of those situations you're just not paying attention.
In 1962 I saw the New York Yankees play in Kansas City. I wanted to be Mickey Mantle. I still do.
In 1964 I saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show. I wanted to be John Lennon. I still do.
In 1982 I attended my first Kerrville Folk Festival. It changed my life. I learned that enduring 100-degree temperatures & torrential downpours for 18 sleep-deprived days amongst thousands of fire ants & smelly musicians & music fans was about the most inspiring (perspiring?) & invigorating experience I could have. I can't imagine my life without that annual reunion with my Kerr-family.
I am blessed with a vast array of friends. They (you) are my sustaining force.
Carpe delirium.
