About me:

I grew up in Philadelphia, earned a Bachelors degree in Physical Education at Penn State University, a Masters Degree in Sports Medicine from the University of Delaware, and a Doctorate of Education at Temple University. When a business I owned failed, I decided to pen a novel I had been thinking about for years. Working late nights and on weekends, I eventually finished MEG; A Novel of Deep Terror...selling my car to pay for editing fees. On September (Friday) the 13th, 1996, I lost my GM job at a wholesale meat plant. Four days later my agent had a two-book deal with Bantam Doubleday.

MEG is about a 70-foot, 70,000 pound prehistoric great white shark. The novel would go on to become the book of the 1996 Frankfurt book fair, where it eventually sold to more than a twenty countries. It hit every major best-seller list, including #19 on the New York Times list (#7 audio), and was even a popular radio series in Japan.

My second novel, The TRENCH (Meg sequel) was released by Kensington/Pinnacle in 1999. My third novel, DOMAIN and its sequel, RESURRECTION were purchased by Tor/Forge, along with GOLIATH and the third book in the MEG series, MEG; Primal Waters. In April of 2005, MEG was optiond by New Line Cinema, which will release the movie in Summer 2008 (fingers crossed). Jan de Bont (Twister) will direct. My 7th novel, The LOCH, is about the Loch Ness monster.

I answer all of my e-mail personally every day for 3 hours. All of the characters in my novels are fans who have entered characer contests. Visit my website at SteveAlten.com

If you are a movie producer looking for a low budget, high potential comedy, I have written three original scripts that will soon become available.

Over the years, I have received many many e-mails from teens who hated reading ...until they read MEG or my other novels. When I learned high school teachers were actually using my books in the classroom (MEG had been rated #1 book for reluctant readers) I founded Adopt-An-Author, a nationwide non-profit program designed to encourage students to read. Teachers who register for the program (it’s free) receive giant shark posters, free curriculum materials, student-author correspondence, an interactive website, and classroom conference calls/visits with the author. To date, over 8,000 teachers have registered, and the success rate in getting teens to read has been unprecedented. I now spend 15-20 hours a week working with high schools. For more information click on AdoptAnAuthor.com

As an author, I have two goals. First, to continue to work hard to become a better storyteller and create exciting page turning thrillers. Second, to remain accessible to my readers.

Who I'd like to meet:
Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Rob Reiner, Bill Clinton, and any major director, producer, or actor interested in my work.

Hi Steve - just finished reading The Shell Game. I loved it, but it scared the hell out of me. I also loved that you mentioned the Marina Trench in the book as it brought back Meg memories. Looking forward to the new Meg book.

Peace.

Hey Steve Alten Fans!

I have a few things for you today. First, I just published an Author-2-Author interview with one of my favorite authors, Steve Alten. To read the article simply visit my site www. Alleywolf. com

Here’s a little bit from the interview:

Four days after Steve lost his job as the GM of a meat company, six of the biggest publishing houses fought in a bidding war for his novel. Bantam Doubleday won and MEG went on to become the book of the 1996 Frankfurt book fair, where it sold to more than fifteen countries. As his novel hit the domestic market it reached the best-seller list on the New York Times and several other outlets.

Since MEG, Steve has written several other novels including 3 sequels to MEG and his latest and most controversial, the Shell Game. Steve has also written several screenplays and formed the Adopt-An-Author program, which is a national non-profit program designed to help young adults become, “interested in reading and writing through the use of best-selling thrillers, heroic non-fiction stories, motivational books and direct contact with the authors via personal appearances, phone calls, emails, and interactive websites.” ~AdoptAnAuthor. com

Also, a special thanks to a few authors:
Jason Pinter, New York Times bestselling author of ‘The Guilty’
D. H. Brown, author of ‘Honor Due’
Rai Aren and Travis E., co-authors of ‘Secrets of the Sands’

These great writers recently agreed to take part in my Author-2-Author interviews and also to read the first issue of my soon to debut Owen Ruger adventure series and to then write blurbs for the cover. Thanks guys, you’re great!

Till next time, TTFN

ok well i have to say a few things Steve. I also read the article on the Los Angeles times and it is a good thing hearing about the Meg and that there still is interest on making a film. Second of all my Brother in law Ron wrote you an email and all i have to say that that is some BS about UCLA disinviting you to there book fair, I was really looking foward to meeting you i even got the day off of work to go meet you and get all my books of yours signed cause the last time you were in the LA area i missed you cause of my work. I am so dissapointed that The university would do something like that. Wow! that the Shell Game has poked some nerves at the university. I love the book, so far im half way into it and im sure i will love it to the very end. And thank you for making me think about the future.
Keep up the great work! And God Bless!
Tiger

Steve, I loved the LA Times article about Meg. I saw lots of buzz about the film on websites over the weekend. I wish Garth Franklin could get involved with the project. He is so wise.
People are saying that they are first in line to see the movie, no it is not correct I am!

Hey Everyone!

Please help push The Shell Game to the Top10 of the New York Times best seller list with the very first Week of Truth Campaign.
As many know, Jack Blood of Deadline Live has been helping to promote this effort.   Below is a message from Jack to all Myspace users.  I support the Week of Truth campaign and also Jack's suggestion below.

Just spotted a link to the LA Times online article about the Meg movie development issues.

1) Congrats on the new deal. Hopefully, the third time's the charm!
2) They wanted wings on the shark? You've got to be kidding. Please tell me you're kidding.
3) They wanted to cut the helicopter attack? That would easily be one of the top visuals if left in.

I'm hoping for the best and still consider me first in line when Meg opens in Northeastern PA... no matter when it happens!!

The First Major NationallyCoordinated 9/11 Truth Effort to BREAK THE CORPORATE MEDIA BLOCKADE!

www. weekoftruth. org
shellgamefinal.jpg

New York Best Selling Author, Steve Alten, is appearing on national corporate media educating millions of the importance of the 9/11 TRUTH MOVEMENT.  We can get him on more and more media, and perhaps stop a false flag attack that will launch war with Iran.  Seymor Hirsch and Scott Ritter are predicting the neocons will launch an event in April. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE.

The major forces of the 9/11 truth movement have coalesced around a WEEK OF TRUTH campaign to drive the explosive new historical-novel "The Shell Game" to the top 10 on the New York Times best seller list.
This book’s author has fearlessly urged media to cover 9/11 truth researchers! By focusing our purchases between 4/16-4/22 we can drive this book to the best seller list, and fo

Steve, I just finished reading The Shell Game the other day. That book scares the crap out of me and I hope that something gets done soon. I've been telling my friends about it but most are pretty conservative and believe the patriot act to be necessary for the CIA and FBI to do their jobs against terrorism, if they only knew. I will keep spreading the word hoping that it will make a difference. Best wishes.
