Durphy Doucette
Acoustic & Electric Guitars, Harmonica, Mandolin , Percussion, and Lead Vocals
Durphy began playing professionally both as a solo artist and with his own band back when he was 15 years old. He has toured extensively with his own backup bands and opened for many major acts including Paul Davis also from Meridian. He also toured with and opened for Keith Sykes of MCA records. He has played as a sideman on guitar and harmonica with a number of different bands since then until Durphy took a few years off from playing live when he began practicing entertainment law on Music Row in Nashville. The amount of work and traveling that endeavor involved, Durphy was not able to continue to play professionally nearly as often as he wished. But he continued to write songs and work in his studio, The Labyrinth, where he recorded with a number of different musicians including Will Kimbrough, John Keane, and Todd Snider. He moved back to Meridian to take on a number of different music projects including founding High Cotton Records and writing his first book – “The Truth About the Music Business”. He has written countless songs over his career and working on his next record to follow his latest record—“True Meridian”--

But I have to give a shout out to all those folks from whom I have gotten their business card and the next day tried to remember what it was that was so damned important for me that I should have their business card in the first place...as well as those willing to loan their couch back in the day, to all those who came to the shows and bought the records, to all my friends & to all those that pitched in at one time or another...
YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!

Durphy Doucette- has been playing around the southeast for quite some time and this new incarnation of the band THE COWBOY KILLERS, formerly known as The New South, is a party band to say the least! We were playing what is now known as Americana or Alternative Country long before there were even such terms--but with a twist --we play rock and funk with an "alternative rock/country twist" and are anything but main stream. When asked what type of music we play, our answer is "Rock'n Psychedelic Country Funk"....fusing many styles with our own "unique" perspective...but always trying to play "to" and more importantly "for" the audience and WE WANT YOU!...to "Come" on out and check us out! In the past the band was comprised of a revolving roster of a few of the top musicians based in Oxford, MS, and played regularly around that area before Durphy moved to Austin, Texas. When Durphy returned to MS, a new lineup picked right back up where the others had left off and continued to ROCK the southeast until Durphy moved to Nashville, TN where he worked exclusively in the music and legal business until 2001. He has returned to Mississippi to be closer to his family and to acutally have time to work on several other music related projects like writing "The Truth About the Music Business, founding High Cotton Records for recording his own music as well as engineering and/or producing many records for various artists...but more importanlty getting back into performing live!
Description of the Band Today...
The Cowboy Killers play a wide variety of music at their live shows, but mainly focus on "SOUTHERN MUSIC" with a LET'S PARTY ATTITUDE! We are currenlty on our "We never killed a drink that didn't deserve it tour! And we want to play what you want to hear! Come on out and PARTY with us! We play a lot of songs written by our friends and business associates and also from from Bluegrass Rap, to funk, to alternative rock/country and some just plain cool songs but always in our own unique style.
