Metro Detroit classical guitarist Steven Dearing enjoys an active career as soloist, chamber musician and guest soloist with orchestras in Canada and the US. When he is not touring he can be heard throughout the metro Detroit area performing music for church services, private recitals and special occasions. His recordings are played on radio stations internationally. He is the guitar instructor at the University of Windsor and runs a small studio out of his studio in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
Steven began guitar studies in Windsor Ontario, Canada attending the University of Windsor under the tutelage of Jefferey McFadden and Dominic Bertucci. He later pursued a Masters degree in Guitar Performance at Wayne State University studying with guitarists Michael Stockdale (Center for Creative Studies) and John Holmquist (Cleveland Institute of Music).
Upon graduation, Steven and his wife Abha formed the Dearing Concert Duo, a voice and classical guitar duet (www.dearingconcertduo.com). Since then they released 3 acclaimed CD's heard on radio stations internationally. They have also won 6 Detroit Music Awards, performed for heads-of-state including Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien, and have given recitals throughout the US, Canada and Europe including the Cheltenham International Music Festival. They made appearances on both Canadian and US public television.
Steven is planning the release of a solo CD in summer 2009 featuring 20'th century guitar works and another in fall 2009 featuring romantic period Spanish guitar pieces. Read more at www.stevendearing.com/
Hi, and thanks for the friendship! The Danish composer Per Nørgård's music has been much on my mind the past few years. Arguably the most important now living Scandinavian composer also has a remarkable output for the guitar. I spent a couple of years working with the composer on this repertoire, spanning from 1973 to 2000, in order to embrace the emerging performance practice associated with his work.
I have just uploaded 10 new tracks, all taken from "Tales From the North", my double CD box with the complete guitar works of Danish composer Per Nørgård. Also, in my latest blog you will find recent reviews of this release.
