The long awaited debut album from Steve Northeast is finally here and will be released 2008.
After leaving the shores of his homeland Australia in 2002 and moving to New York, the world now gets to hear what could be one of the best rock albums to come out by a singer/songwriter for years.
After beginning his career and playing venues in Australia, Northeast had an opportunity to move to New York. "It was alluring," He says, "coming to New York and I knew I had to seize the opportunity so I could take my music to the next level. It's taken me a bit longer to get this debut album out but that's sometimes the case when you're an independent artist, you have to be determined and self motivated. When I moved to New York, I took a step back to enable myself to move further forward in my career."
Northeast began, as most singer/songwriters do by emulating the work of other artists but as he gained in skill and maturity, his compositions began to take on a unique flavor of their own.
The title of the album, He says "Inside, is pretty much about my journey to this point, and who I am as a person and songwriter at this particular time in my life. Inside is the consummate product of years spent of near constant evolution as an independent artist."
Always performing somewhere in and around New York developing his sound, this album has captured the music of an artist who plays with passion, honesty and edge. "I have always been into music that moves and inspires you", Northeast says. "I like to do the same things with my songs whether it's a more aggressive rock song or an explosive ballad. I don't care what it is just as long as the listener feels it."
Striking out as an Independent Producer, Northeast was able to harness the great chemistry between himself and his band. The result is a collection of songs that are a reflection of that energy. They are raw and powerful. The songs are about modern times, what the human race is dealing with on a global scale and what we deal with as individuals on a day-to-day basis.
"This is a record that I can say is a true representation of my music. When I went into the studio I really wanted a big sound and we achieved it. The album was mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound who's other projects include, John Lennon, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Lenny Kravitz, John Mayer, Kings of Leon, The Strokes and U2 to name a few. The plan now is to get out there and play it live."

Hi Steve, We missed you last night at Cornelia Street. Dan did a fine job, and I got to hear his CD and therefore his amazing talent. BUT, we were glad to hear you are visiting your homeland, and I hope you are having a great time there. Travel safe, and I'll see you in August or September! PS. I was raving about your CD to someone last night, and they want to buy it. Take care, Kev
