About me: Against the Flow – Steve Pinock
Album Launch at Bar None, Nottingham; Tuesday 18th March 2008
Against the Flow is a flaming fusion of acoustic instruments and inspiration gathered from across the world and brought to life by Steve’s near legendary old hand guitar technique.
Against the Flow was recorded in the unique environment of Steve’s narrow boat studio over the winter of 07/08. It features innovative use of instruments collected during his musical pilgrimage across the world, including and not limited to Turkish Sass, Oud lute from the Middle East, Udu drums from Nigeria, Berimbau from Brazil, Cuatro from Puerto Rico, Tabla from India and Cajon from Cuba.
During time out from his long-term musical projects, Mood Indigo and Café Du Monde, Steve’s culturally enriched artistry reached its zenith whilst travelling far and wide. He landed some legendary performances including the Montreaux Jazz Festival (Geneve), Comptoire du Jazz (Bordeaux), Safi Bar (Turkey) and The Hotel Saville (Cuba), the haunt of Al Capone. An invitation from MTV and MGM to perform in Cannes at the 40 years of James Bond celebrations gave Steve the chance to perform in front of some of the biggest names in entertainment, as well as trying the Bond cars for size.
Steve is famed for his bespoke compositions; including work for play-write John Godber’s productions Bouncers and Teachers and has made numerous television appearances.
Steve will be performing his forthcoming album Against the Flow on Tues 18th March at Bar None, Stoney Street, Nottingham. Guests to this exclusive event will receive a limited edition copy of the album ahead of its official release.
Hi Steve, great to hear about the new album coming out- I certainly am looking forward to hearing this. It would be great to come to Nottingham in the Summer and take part in one of those outside jams you guys have. I'm really into my latino piano at the moment- anything on those lines would be fun!
