Steve Strongman's astounding guitar playing and expressive songwriting combined with his entertaining showmanship, have firmly established him as one of Canada’s best new Blues artists. The 2009 recipient of the prestigious Mel Brown Blues award, 2008 Maple Blues awards nominee for “Guitarist of the year”, 2007 Maple Blues Awards “Best New Artist” nominee, received standing ovations opening for the legendary Buddy Guy on his Canadian tour dates. The summer saw Steve lighting up stages with shows at the Montreal Jazz Festival and Ottawa Blues Festival to name a few. This dynamic performer has an incredibly bright future ahead. After witnessing his performance and listening to Steve’s recordings, you’ll see why he’s one of the most talked about blues artists on the scene.
Steve has just completed his long awaited follow up to his first studio release “Honey” with the spectacular new offering of “Blues in Colour”. This recording showcases Steve’s triple threat abilities as an engaging singer, prolific composer (12 new compositions) and outstanding guitarist with some excellent harp playing added in for good measure. Steve is joined by music veterans Dave King (drummer/producer co- writer) who has toured and recorded with many Grammy and Juno winning artists (namely blues harmonica legend King Biscuit Boy and world-renowned producer T-Bone Burnette. Alec Fraser (Jeff Healey, David Wilcox) rounds out the trio on bass, and is an award winning producer/player in his own right, with multiple junos and maple blues awards to his credit.
Steve’s “Blues in Colour” was recorded in a century old barn, out in the country fields of Caistor Centre Ontario, which helped foster many “live off the floor” performances. This environment aided in keeping the sound and feel of the recording steeped in an old school blues tradition, while maintaining a definite nod to the artist’s own contemporary sound which he continues to carve out with every new offering.
