Influences
Take influences such as Jackson Browne, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Johnny Cash, Pete Seeger, Neil Young, The Eagles and John Denver.
Then add a tight melodical vocal sound reminiscent of Brooks & Dunn or perhaps Hall & Oates. Add to that a bluesy rolling beat similar to Dire Straits.
Next, stir in a bit of showmanship with shades of Neil Diamond, (or dare we say it), Elvis! And finally, sprinkle in some of the clever wordplay familiar to Joe Walsh or Lyle Lovett. Then you’ll begin to get a picture of what’s in store for an audience lucky enough to enjoy his unique concert style performance.
Sounds Like
Steve Tanglewood stakes his claim as being one of the best songwriters alive. And that just may be true… with “Live” being the key word.
He begins many of his performance slots with a flurry of songs that showcase his incredible “Rapid Fire Lyrics”.
He both salutes and burns through the New Country genre with such hits as “Come On Baby”, “Hurricane” and “Hot Rod Country”. Then, suddenly he may choose to deliver a slow ballad of unrequited love that simply floors the audience in its authenticity and heartfelt yearning.
In an unusual twist, Mr. Tanglewood is almost as much an Actor as much as a Musician. He seems to take on the various personas of the characters in his “all original” songs. For example near the end of the show, in his signature song, “Tombstone”, he convincingly plays the part of a chiseled western Sherriff who ends up in a dramatic gunfight in the streets of Arizona.
sT describes his style of acoustic-electric guitar almost as if he’d invented a new instrument. With a wry grin he calls it “Percussion Style Guitar Playing”. The fact is, he lays down some pretty impressive, (and quite memorable) rhythms with that sexy-looking customized black Taylor Guitar of his.
Remarkably, at an age when most musical stars are beginning to fade, at 52, Steve Tanglewood’s career as a Singer, Songwriter and Performer is just beginning to rise. It will be very interesting to see how he shines on the National Stage that he is no doubt headed for.
Life's School of Hard Knocks (continuing education)
Steve Tanglewood is also known as: “The Sheriff”
Some call him:
"The Keeper of the Songs"
A self-proclaimed recluse, Mr. Tanglewood rarely appears in public.
But when he does venture out... the streets come alive.
Everyone knows when his customized Black 6-String Taylor Guitar is back in town... And that's when the fun starts!
When you finally hear his "delicately furious" acoustic electric guitar sound, you’ll know he’s playin for keeps.
Once in awhile, The Sheriff lets loose a flurry of songs that'll put you on the edge of your seat.
Audiences routinely become dead silent just trying to capture the feeling of sT's signature heart wrenching ballads.
And on a great night, you might also find yourself, dancing, stomping, clapping and shouting to the rhythm & beat of his up-tempo tunes.
Indeed, many of his faster songs feature some of the most scorching (and amusing) "Rapid Fire Lyrics".
In the studio or in concert, Steve Tanglewood always shows his true colors as a West-Coast style songwriter.
If you happen to catch one of his solo shows you’ll find Steve Tanglewood to be a musical force to be both enjoyed and reckoned with.
But if by chance you're lucky enough to see him play in concert backed by his incredible studio bandmates... you’ll very likely be treated to some of the best music you’ve ever heard in your life.

Thanks for the nice comment. Yes, it WAS exhausting...and I was told I'd be out of there by 10...well, you know that didn't happen, Driving back to Seattle at 1 in the morning really wasn't part of my plan but .....
There was a lot of great talent there. I've never been a judge before...and that internal voice inside your head that says "who are you to judge?" was really loud...but it was really clear in the beginning and not so clear towards the end. We are so lucky to have music in our lives....the whole thing really moved me.
Thanks so much, Steve!! It was wonderful to meet you, and your super-cute daughter!! You did a fantastic job, as well!! Hope to see you play again soon!
