About Steve Van

Steve Van (Singer/Songwriter) has been performing since 1996. Before going solo, Steve formed two previous bands, “Junglebook Vultures” (1996–2000 - Label-BMG Africa/Street Level Studios) and “Rust” (2000-2002 - Independent). Both bands were well received, achieving nationwide airplay on 5fm and other national radio stations. The Cape Argus Newspaper later accredited the Junglebook Vultures as pioneers of Acoustic Rock in South Africa. Steve’s debut solo album “Getting Stronger” (2002 - Silvertree Records/Street Level Records) received favourable reviews, including 'CD of the week' from Amuzine.co.za, charted at number 4 on the top 30 albums of SA Rock Digest and songs from the album were play-listed on a number of radio stations and TV shows. Although experimental, Steve views Getting Stronger as an important solo project. The album was recorded in just 10 days and it this was his first opportunity to express his solo song-writing capability. Steve’s second album was released in 2007 (Silvertree Records/Big Leap Records). “The River” is a collection of 10 acoustic rock tracks, all with a powerful life message. Steve took more time in completing this album, working together with producer Craig Ormond. The album was recorded over an 18 month period, again this album has been well received. The first single “When a tear falls” has been play-listed on a number of radio stations and TV shows and the video is currently playlisted on DSTV’s MK89.
