The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Carole King, Elton John, Cat Stevens, CSN, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, America, The Eagles, Pure Prairie League, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Dan Fogelberg, Warren Zevon, Poco, and Billy Joel. Pretty much in that order...hundreds...no thousands of others followed.
Writing songs is an addiction I've had since I was 13 years
old. I played all over the North Coast when I got out of high school then
moved out to LA and lived there until my mid-20s. Had some cool things
happen - went to Nashville to make a record - record never quite got made
but I sure learned a lot about drinking whiskey. So back to the West Coast I
went to make another record. A couple years later I realized that I loved
music about as much as I hated the music business. I left LA, and
twenty years went by.
I released this record, Across The Landscape, on Primitive Records.
A label I started back in 1996 to help promote the debut releases of
The Jellybricks and ivet,
but had been inactive since 2000. This record received a great response from radio,
getting close to 200 spins a week at over 40 stations in the Triple
A/Americana/Pop formats. A lot of old and new friends helped me out
here, and it was a blast. My buddy Jeff Pevar plays all the "good" guitars.
Jeff has a resume that spans 25 years with artists as diverse as Ray Charles
to James Taylor, and for the past decade he's mainly worked with David
Crosby and CSN. T Lavitz and Rod Morgenstein from The Dixie Dregs/Jazz Is
Dead appear on three of the songs. Tom Kristich and Larry Kennedy from The
Jellybricks can be heard here as well. And another delight is Leah Kunkel on
backing vocals. I have been a fan of hers since Jackson Browne's first
record, and her incredible voice appears on about half of my favorite
records from the 70s.
Thanks Steve for the add. I always appreciate and welcome talented new friends. Best wishes and much success. "Spread the Word, Real Rock & Roll is Alive & Well"

Not just another genre, folk rock was born as a statement—of purpose, of taste, of superiority—the baby boom’s first imprimatur, a musical mission and a personal battle cry in a divisive time of racial tension and escalating war. For a generation of philosopher dropouts and drug-inspired visionaries, it was also the best way to partake in the era’s hippest form of artistic expression, in numbers previously unknown to man.
