Bio Stevie Ann
Stevie Ann was already playing piano from an early age when she traded it at the age of fourteen for a guitar and a notebook in which she started to write her own songs. Inspired by 90’s icons such as Sheryl Crow and Alanis Morrissette as well as 60’s singer songwriters like Bonnie Raitt, Joni Mitchell and Ricky Lee Jones, she penned her debut album “Away From Here” as an independent project. Stevie Ann won an Essent Award and a Silver Harp Award for her first album. These remarkable achievements were followed by successful performances at festivals, pop venues and theatres. “The Poetry Man” and a beautiful cover of the Queen classic “One Year of Love” became national hits. Stevie Ann won a golden disc for the track “Away From Here” in 2007.
The young singer left for England in order to concentrate on writing her second album and the result is an intimate and atmospheric reflection of her personality. ..r to the Heart (October 2007) the title of the album is borne out in a collection of pure acoustic songs, pop melodies and powerful rock songs.
In the autumn of 2007 Stevie Ann performed at most of the larger pop venues in The Netherlands; the Tivoli, Het Patronaat and Het Paard van Troje, among others. In the spring of 2008 there followed a successful theatre tour and Stevie Ann created the song “Changes” in June 2008 as the theme song for a campaign supporting action against climate change in the Netherlands.
The songs of Stevie Ann have been influenced by a wide variety of music – from folk to blues, and from roots to pop. These essential elements have grown within her work and have made a strong contribution to her staggering growth as an artist. The dreamy songs with their poetic themes and narratives from her debut album have matured in her second album into gritty reflections on life itself. She has grown from strength to strength as a singer, a songwriter, and an artist in her own right.
