Sounds Like
We're having the best time since sliced bread.
Policy Briefs: more than a little bit Erik Truffaz, Bugge Wesseltoft and EST with the jam band mentality of Medeski, Martin & Wood and the British post-jazz punk thing of Acoustic Ladyland. In a nutshell.
Stanley: besotted with Damien Rice and Beth Gibbons. A kind of quiet, unplugged Portishead.
Solo: indebted to the likes of Jeff Buckley, Elbow, Mansun, Leaves, Ed Harcourt, Magnet, Damien Rice, PJ Harvey ...
Musically, I'm knee-deep in the following projects:
An as yet untitled group performing nu-soul originals around London and surrounding area, led by vocal collosus, Kate Brown.
Groovestone: a 7-piece function band for all occassions, gigging all over England. We also enjoyed a great tour to the French Alps ploughing through all The Feeling's old hideouts.
Stanley: a 3-piece acoustic trio led by the wonderful Caz Oestreich.
I also write my own material, write regularly for www.themusicmagazine.co.uk and plough eagerly into armchair psychology and cod-Dawkins religious debate on demand.
Featured tracks:
Blue Skies (music & lyrics: Poly) ... from an EP by keyboard-player and all-round good egg Mr. Poly with me on bass and vocals.
Unremembered Film (music & lyrics: Stevie B) ... this one is actually from the DVD of a one-off gig written by me based on the story Pornography by the celebrated novelist Ian McEwan. I'm on bass supported by Policy Briefs and a string quartet of Steve Polydorou, Tom Horn, Karen Storer and Ed Milner. On vocals in this clip is Kate Brown playing the part of Pauline. It's sad and raunchy at the same time which I think is a good thing.
Right Time (music: Sammy Smith / lyrics: Stevie B) ... filthy drummer Mr. Sammy Smith is the brains behind the synths here, with my vocals input.
You're The One That I Want / Ain't No Sunshine (Jacobs / Casey / Withers) ... from sort-of-acoustic trio Stanley. Apologies for the pseudo-Jeffisms. As for Bill Withers, well thank the Lord he's still with us.
Guten Tag Herr Bloomfield! Ca va? I also know some Italian, Spanish, Polish and Greek aren't I the multi-linguist? Is everyone from school getting in touch with you? There seems to be a weird reunion thing goin on.......Hope you're well.

After the [Hamburg] match Ljungberg revealed the circumstances behind his prolonged absence from the first team. As Sweden's Player of the Year explained, he was laid low after a brush with a certain dairy product.
"I suffer from migranes and one of the triggers is cheese," said Ljungberg. "We were at a big gala, where there were about 7,000 people.
"They know I am allergic to it and I did get a special plate, but somehow they managed to get cheese on it anyway. It was in the mashed potato. But that is how it is, and I got an attack. It was a bit unfortunate, because everywhere I go, I ask what food it is, but sometimes that does happen.
"It is something I have had since puberty, which is when it came on and it is just a fact of my life."
Doh! By the time I've got around to replying my friends have gone up to 74. I was kinda hoping to dwell on the ol' 69 for a bit heh heh. Hope all's good M'sieur B... When will I see youuuu agaiiiiiinn???
BTW.. We've managed to get six or seven gigs in London over the next couple of months by going straight to promoters. One night was for anarchic death jazz, and for some reason I thought the Briefs would fit right in. Drop me a line when u get a mo...
