Rarely does an artist embody the qualities of the venue they're playing but Stevie D of Stevie D and the No Shows fits the bill with his organic, play-what you-know, play-what-you've-learned style. He adapted it playing in various punk, oldies and R&B-inspired bands around North Central Florida and eventually decided to perform his original songs through a drum, bass and acoustic-guitar trio, just enough of a band to add color to the palette but not enough to splatter it against the walls. He's a veteran of the Gainesville music scene and a do-it-yourselfer, perfect for the Tim and Terry's spirit.
Stevie D and the No Shows will host their CD release show for the album "Something's Wrong" on Saturday night and provide listeners with a sense of what makes their music consistently interesting - there are enough lyrics to rival a Chuck Berry or Bruce Springsteen record, but the lyrics are written and delivered in a style reminiscent of Tom Gabel from Against Me! with force and vigor. That's what we've been waiting for from an acoustic artist isn't it? One filled with piss and vinegar instead of sorrow and self-doubt?
It seems we need to read the book Here There and Everywhere by Beatles recording engineer Geoff Emerick who claims its a metronome. However, I dont trust anyone who spells their name like Geoff. That spells Gee-off.
