There's this place in me where your fingerprints still rest, your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo. It's the place where a part of you will forever be a part of me.

Hawkwind...list goes on and in no particular order :)
I try to avoid most of the rubbish put on British TV these days, but I still have to watch The Simpsons, Bottom, The League Of Gentlemen, Family Guy, etc. Ray Mears' Bushcraft is a refreshing change. Damn beautiful, actually, as is Planet Earth and all of David Attenborough's wildlife documentaries. :p Natural World with Simon King. Tribe.
The Hoobs! ;D
Books
Read, dammit!
Crime thrillers, thrillers in general, horror, science, science fiction, philosophy, etc...a lot of stuff by Harlan Coben, Chris Ryan, Stephen King, Michael Connely, Carl Sagan, Arthur C. Clarke...
"Books permit us to voyage through time, to tap the wisdom of our ancestors. The library connects us with the insights and knowledge, painfully extracted from Nature, of the greatest minds that ever were, with the best teachers, drawn from the entire planet and from all of our history, to instruct us without tiring, and to inspire us to make our own contribution to the collective knowledge of the human species." - Carl Sagan
Heroes
Heroes ^_^
*ponders*
Erm, David Coverdale. (the singer from Deep Purple (Burn, Stormbringer, Come Taste The Band) and Whitesnake.
His songwriting, passion, emotion and soul-filled songs have helped me through various tough times, and helped me meet one of my dearest friends.
And the unquestionable...my mum. For always being there, through thick and thin and introducing me to my musical passions. Cheers mum! x
Carl Sagan (1934 - 1996). His views on astronomy and life in general are a huge, HUGE inspiration. A truly remarkable human being :)
Jay Miner (1932 - 1994) - "The Father Of The Amiga Home Computer". It may sound 'sad' to some, but I'm so glad I discovered this gem of a computer. A computer that is fun, has its quirks and has a soul. Yes, a machine with soul! Yes, I have to admit to being an Amiga nut. I'm sure the computing world would have been a better place, had things gone the way Jay wanted them to! Decades ahead of its time... "Excellence through simplicity". Thanks Jay. "the age-old battle between mediocrity and excellence, the struggle between merely existing and trying to go beyond expectations."
Well, I'm a 26yo bloke called Stephen, living in Northamptonshire (East Midlands), UK.
People have told me I'm easy to get on with, friendly, deep, sensitive and a good listener (and a complete nutter, at times!) :) I enjoy good company, going to gigs/concerts (I think they're the one moment in time you can really let go and journey into a different place, both physically and emotionally - being connected to music is what it's all about) and I just generally enjoy having a laugh and being with friends.
You could say I am a dreamer - I tend to look at the world with a childlike and romantic view, which often gets me into trouble when I start to drift off into a dreamlike state, often thinking of ideals and yearning for that true and complete feeling of love and knowledge. To be able to smell the rain, to notice the butterfly, to watch the sun set with someone special and to understand this universe we float in. It may sound 'corny', but I think it's partly the essence of being human :)
I do have my mad moments and like to get tipsy from time to time, but I do have a serious side when necessary. Anyone who thinks they'd like to test that out, feel free to get in touch.
Music plays a huge part in my life -
without it, I'd be well and truly lost.
I have a huge passion for classic rock and metal and was definitely born in the wrong era! To see what kind of thing, see the band list on the left. I can be very open-minded when it comes to music, providing it's good musicianship, has been thought about and has the ability to take you to a different place!
Did I say I ponder a lot? One could also say I procrastinate quite a bit too, but hey...I'll write more here another day!
I have recently discovered the work of Carl Sagan and have truly been moved by what I have read and seen.
Someone who truly appreciated the beauty of Earth and the potential of our species.
'We' spend billions on nuclear weapons, preparing to destroy ourselves and our planet...we are knowinlgy heading towards self-destruction, as things stand...why, oh why? *mumbles* See the videos and quotes below :)
If you're on a similar kind of wavelength, feel free to get in touch.
[Friend Requests - If you're a band, can you at least respect my music tastes and send me a message to introduce yourselves before you make a 'Friend Request'? Many thanks! For everyone else, a message before/after adding me would also be great...]
Below:The intro to the film "Contact". One of the most beautiful, awe-inspiring and mind-boggling introductions to a film I have ever seen... p e r s p e c t i v e.
"We succeeded in taking that picture [from deep space], and if you look at it, you see a dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives.
The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there - on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors, so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.
Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known." - Carl Sagan.
Take a look at the video below. I can only say, it's inspirational:)
"All our science, measured against reality, is primitive and childlike -- and yet it is the most precious thing we have" - Albert Einstein
"Who are we? We live on a hunk of rock and metal that circles a humdrum star that is one of 400 billion other stars that make up the Milky Way Galaxy which is one of billions of other galaxies which make up a universe which may be one of a very large number, perhaps an infinite number, of other universes. That is a perspective on human life and our culture that is well worth pondering." - Carl Sagan
Who I'd like to meet:
Lovely, lovely people... who I'd like to meet
People with similar interests as me - people with a similar/identical music taste as me would be great, but not overly necessary :p
Fun-loving, deep, sensitive, caring (all the usuals?!) people are the kinda people I get on with mostly. People who find thunderstorms romantic lol. People who can find fulfillment in questioning our existence, people who can gaze at the stars in awe, people who can get satisfaction from the beauty around us...you get the picture...! :)
Carl Sagan - Well, to say thanks, I guess...for helping free my mind & helping me to discover/realise what true perspective is...his beautiful views on life, his soaring passion - his desire to know, has changed me forever. We are made of star-stuff:)
David Coverdale - To thank him for his voice, his soul and his music. His music has inspired me & helped me on countless occasions. There ain't another voice like it! Robert Plant ripoff? I think not.

So hope ALL is kewl with You and going Your way; just a quickie for now to say HEY!!! Yep, I too hate these shorter days, when it gets dark like 5:30pm... Atleast it has been sunny and in the 70s-80s here so far, anything below 70 degrees is cold to Me; the Native Southern Californian in Me, no doubt... I'm planning on moving back home to Los Angeles this Summer, can't wait... Heard the new GunsNRoses album yet??? It is pretty awesome, so check it out, if You've not already... They have it on their MySpace page now, and it dropped yesterday at Midnight in some stores (Best Buy), drops either tomorrow or next Tuesday everywhere... Yum! Amiga-food. I'm off to one of the Chiptune Alliance gigs later this month. Can't wait!
How's work and life going?
I've been watching Carl Sagan's Cosmos lately. The guy's incredible. It's a shame there aren't more people like him. In fact, I think it's time he goes in my "heroes" list.
