Stewart Pillow was born in 1985 in Newport News, Virginia. Descended from a line of local professional vocalists and musicians, he began singing at two years old, first performing publicly at four. To supplement his vocal abilities, Stewart began training with a competitive classical piano studio, with which he subsequently studied for thirteen years under nationally recognized Tidewater-based pianist, Alisa Bohon. Throughout his career as a classical pianist, Stewart received numerous honors, including 1st place in the Eastern District Piano Competition at Virginia Wesleyan College, in 1999.
Stewart also showcased his vocals, garnering acclaim for his 1995 performance as Winthrop in The Music Man, and contributing to innumerable local events in the historic Hilton Village and greater Tidewater community. While attending Warwick High School, Stewart entered into classical vocal training with Mary Matthews, under whom he received the award for 1st place in the Broadway Division of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), at Old Dominion University, in 2003.
In 2001, Stewart completed the composition of his first album, entitled How to Forget, which he recorded at MindWorks Studio in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The record exemplifies the broad range of musical skills and influence at work in Stewart’s artistry, including elements of classical instrumentation, Broadway chord progressions, Pop and Folk rhythms, and fiercely poetic lyrics.
Following his 14-year performance career in Tidewater, Stewart attended the University of Virginia, and enjoyed the lively artistic atmosphere and local performance venues in Charlottesville, Va. Now living in Nashville, he plans to continue performing and working on his upcoming album, Languor & Tonic.
Here I sit, studying your songs and your scriptures. I miss you and I forever love you Stewart. I clicked on your page from Allison's because Carlyn (recently engaged), made me think about Allison and another congratulations...I am distracted. As I once was when I would listen to you at home. Beautiful. I would never say that otherwise. My parents frequently ask me of you...not as often as I ask myself, however... I miss you. Glad to have your music my beloved Stewart. Talent lies truly in the open hearts of truth. Continue. Let's talk soon.
