» June 30th 2008.....The long awaited album from Plastician is released on Terrorhythm Recordings
‘Beg To Differ’ is the debut artist album from grime and dubstep pioneer Plastician. The
opening track and lead single from the album, ‘Intensive Snare’, features self proclaimed
“King of Grime” and long time friend Skepta. The track is an ode to seminal dubstep night
FWD>> and via sets from Boy Better Know, BBC Radio 1’s Mary Anne Hobbs and
Plasticians own DJ sets is now a firm club favourite, indeed it was demanded by members of
Dubstep Forum that the track be released as a single. The video is currently on You Tube
and soon to be serviced to MTV, Kiss and Channel U.
With a running time of only 45 minutes, ‘Beg To Differ’ is a carefully programmed and
complete listening experience, an example of the variety within grime at it’s best. Tracks like
‘Japan’ and ‘Walk In The Carpark’ are beautiful, fragile and introspective whilst ‘Badboy
Sound’ and ‘Real Things’ are intense and unrelenting aural assaults, the latter employing
Skepta and Frisco of Boy Better Know on vocal duties, alongside Temz, Chronik and
Esco of notorious grime favourites Slew Dem.
By calling the album ‘Beg To Differ’, Chris “Plastician” Reed challneges any doubters of
grime that belived the sound could only thrive within London and he should know; the first DJ
to be booked to play grime and dubstep in Japan, Africa and North America, Plastician’s
unique sound has been recognised by music lovers and industry heads across a number of
genres. His wide appeal and ear for dancefloor movers has seen him commissioned for
remixes of MIA (XL), Alter Ego (Skint) Kosheen (Moshka) and Black Ghosts (Southern
Fried). After holding down a monthly dubstep and grime slot on BBC Radio1, Plastician has
since returned to the critically acclaimed Rinse FM where he continues to showcase the best in grime and dubstep, including his own productions.

Zed Bias - a legendary figure in the darker side of UK Garage, and massive influence on the birth of dubstep along with producers like El-B, Noodles, Wookie, Oris Jay and Horsepower Productions - has more recently concentrated on deep house / funk / rap hybrids. Now, though, there's a massive buzz in the dubstep community and beyond at the news that he's brought back the Sidestepper label on which his most influential stripped-down and bass-heavy productions were released, and is promising releases this and every month.
Sidestepper was originally launched by Zed Bias in 1998 to platform his darker, more experimental work alongside his more commercially viable productions on more established labels. This imprint allowed Zed & friends to write, record and release tracks quickly - feeding off and straight back onto the dance floor. 2008 marks both the 10th anniversary of the label and a fresh representation of the skills that have always put Zed at the forefront of UK dance music innovation. Look out for "The Cauldron feat: Jay Electronica & ghost1" & regular releases every month from then onward. The schedule is bursting with new music so keep your ears open for exclusive dubplate airings from a wide variety of stalwart UK DJ's including; N-TYPE, BENGA, SKREAM, KODE9, HATCHA, APPLEBLIM, MARTYN, MARCUS INTALEX, PHIL ASHER, MR SCRUFF and numerous others.
