Public Film Screening- Spike Lee's "When the Levees Broke" featuring Film Score by Terence Blanchard and Discussion with NOLA Residents

Mon, September 21, 2009 7:30 PM • Kenny Dorham's Backyard, 1106 E.11th St., Austin, TX (3 blocks east of I-35, next to Victory Grill)

DiverseArts, The University of Texas Performing Arts Center and The Austin Public Library present the last installment of a series of film screenings featuring the scores of Terence Blanchard. A native of New Orleans, Blanchard is an acclaimed jazz trumpeter and composer who has written scores for over forty films.

On the anniversary of the storm, excerpts of the 4 hour documentary will be shown and provide a backdrop for extended discussion of the film and Blanchard’s music. Harold McMillan (DiverseArts) has assembled a panel of current Austinites/former NOLA residents for the event and will moderate discussion with these musicians, artists, and former NOLA residents.

The screening is free and open to the public.

Alternate location and time in case of bad weather is Monday, September 21, 6:30 p.m. at the Carver Branch Library, 1161 Angelina, 512-974-1010. For more information please visit http://www.diversearts.org

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)

"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

SPAMED! Can you ever forgive me? If so, please vote for me! I am in Round Two of The TRCoA Unsigned Artist Competition. Help me get to Round Three by clicking my face and voting for me! If I’m in the top 4 I get to play a showcase for record executives and could win 100 free hours in the studio. If I were selected, it would really help me rock some faces off, please take a second and vote. Thanks! -Ted Hadji

YES! I do too, but I can't breathe, I can't sleep and my head is throbbing....I went to the Pharmacy last night and she hooked me up, so I hope with these meds I can get to feeling better. I am not coming in this afternoon to work. We might actually do that. Send a text my way and remind me, if you don't mind. I'd love to do that! We are SOOO loving our vacation time and love being around people too.
the extra money we made from taking those paid surveys online helped out so much!! you should really do them too; i mean, hey, the extra money comes in handy, right? i guess you'll have to type the link into internet explorer or whatever, but here it is:
