Life is all about hardships and strength. It's about what we're put through in our quest to obtain what we consider to be a good life. We all deal with these problems in different ways; in the face of adversity, singer/songwriter Rod Williams turned to the only thing he knew, music. Rod had been going through some of the struggles life throws at us and one day started writing songs again after taking an eight year hiatus from music. At this time he was just writing and performing purely for cathartic reasons, eventually touring through Texas on his own playing singer songwriter showcases regionally.
Though successful, he felt he was missing another element to the music. A good friend introduced him to Brad Passmore one evening and the chemistry was amazing. Brad was the partner in songwriting that Rod had felt he needed. They were both accomplished songwriters themselves and felt they could compliment each other well. Both Rod and Brad were from a corporate background and were burned out from years on the road in the rat race and were ready to put all their passion into music again. Then, just like a puzzle, they pieced together the rest of the members. First was Beji George on drums. "We all really enjoy each other as friends, we like and respect each others musical ideas as well" says Brad Passmore. After they recruited Beji, they crossed paths with Frank Debretti and everything just clicked. Frank is the most well established musician in the group, and has played guitar for the likes of Seal and Vanessa Williams, just to name a few.
It's hard to imagine that this band came from such great distances apart, showcasing three members from Chicago, one from New York, and one from Houston. Though the distance between them was miles, their ideas were all on the same page, and for Stillife this was important because of the emphasis they put on band chemistry. Each of them was going in the same direction; their stable and cohesive song structures are a direct result of that. With songs in hand, it was now time to find a producer. "An ounce of production is worth a pound of talent, when it comes to working with a guy like Randy Miller" says Rod Williams of Miller, whose work earned him 3 Grammys, 1 Latin Grammy, 14 Grammy nominations, and several Gold and Platinum certified albums. After nine months in the studio with Randy, the album was ready to be mastered in February 2006 in LA with Stephen Marcussen (Rolling Stones, Matchbox 20, and Counting Crows). Not bad for a debut album. Stay tuned to this site for upcoming Tour Dates !
