Sounds Like
A performance of "Ballad of Otis and Ocie" from March 2008!
"The creativity and originality of these two blows through the stale air of singer-songwriters like a gale of genius."
Rich Warren, Sing Out! magazine
"Seemingly oblivious to the limitations of what two musicians can create, Still on the Hill has set new boundaries of originality. This duo uses traditional instruments from their home in the Ozarks (mandolin, banjo, fiddle, guitar, harmonica and scrub board) as well as other exotic offerings (Moon guitar from Japan, African Mbira, and Tenor Ukulele) to create a kaleidoscope of musical color and texture.
The result is a yet-to-be-named hybrid music that simply compels people to stop and listen, to pause in their hectic lives and pay attention to something they've never heard before. It's magic, and there's simply not enough magic in the world today. Visually, Still on the Hill is full of color and motion; instrumentally, they command their instruments with power and grace, producing a sound that is both fresh and ancient at the same time; lyrically, their original material is packed with new ideas, social awareness and a level of intellect and consciousness that's seldom found in contemporary tunes."
You guys are lovely! Thanks again for making me a part of the "creating a sense of place" panel at SERFA! Bryan has been telling me about your Scarecrow song, so this is fair warning that I am going to request it next time. I forgot to get my quilt. Maybe we can all do dinner one night soon...
Donna & Kelly, thanks for the add! -- it's been awhile since I've seen you guys so I doubt you'll remember me -- Schubas many years ago, FA in Nashville, 2003 -- I had a table next to yours in the display room...
In any case, I heard you on WDCB, great interview w/Lilli Kuzma -- I *loved* the song about the woman with the teacup tree (hope I got that right), and the whole Ozark project sounds so interesting and beneficial to so many. I'm glad to "re-connect," even if it's only through the internet waves...
I changed the lyric for "Ain't it so nice outside today" , the catchy new tune about seeking disablity benefits. It's on my blog. All feedback appreciated...thanks...rk
