  • Bio

Still Waters was formed some time in July-Aug' 2001.The Band started off when Suman(bass) and Ananth(vox) came across each other as batch mates (NIIT @ Gangtok, Sikkim) and then the usual routine introductory blah-blahs shed light on their desperate need to rock n' roll onstage n stuff ... after long personal breaks from their previous endeavors/bands. In walks Sonam(lead guitars), Suman's former bandmate and childhood buddy. A few casual jam sessions later, with tonnes of cover-bands and concerts making up their individual past(s), they tried stepping into an unfimiliar terrain of making some good ORIGINAL music together. And a "trial-by-error", recording session at a local studio led to their first recorded song "Farsighted Woman". It got some real good reviews and personal reactions from all who heard it. The birth of a whole new full-fledged rock entity was inevitable. And with Netra and Sameer, on drums and rhythm guitars respectively, thus Still Waters was born on the Autumn of 2001. The BIG breakthrough came in the form of their song "Happy Go Lucky" being selected for RSJ's Great Indian Rock fest'( GIR-VI ) in Feb'2002. Soon after, there's been no looking back for the band with strings of achievements piling up every now and then. After GIR the band went to record their 1st Album "Such a Long Time" at a local studio in Gangtok and received quite a humble appreciation amongst the listeners. However, the band has had it's low moments too...the lineup changed after their victory at IIT-Guwahati's competition "Rock-O-Phonix" in Feb'2003. Reasons best left uncovered for everyones' good!!! But now the band's all set to rock with a new lineup and a new Album releasing very Soon!! HUMBLE HIGH MOMENTS!!! 10th Sept' 2010 STILL WATERS' new nepali tracks "Priyasi" and "Jhutho Prayaash" from the forthcoming album "Starting From Scratch” play'd/premiered @ 11am on Welcome-Hits FM 91.2mhz (Kathmandu, Nepal) in a show called Naulo Saugat on Monday, Sept 13th. It was also the first time SW played in Delhi since GIR- 6. Co-organized by RSJ (Rock Street Journal), the concert was held at the prestigious Hamsadhwani O.T., Pragati Maidan...the same place where GIR takes place every year. Along with 4 other kick-ass bands from Mumbai and Delhi itself. SW was set for the second slot with other bands like Prestorika n' Oritus from Delhi and Scribe n' Bhayanak Maut from Mumbai. This was also the first time the band played outstation with a keyboard player in its ranks. And the bass duties were handled well by a relatively newbie bassist Miwang Lepcha... possibilities of him joining SW as a regular member are very high after his performance there!!! The move played well as the band rocked all with some Maiden, Audioslave etc... along with their Originals of course. Venue: Hamsadhwani Open Air Theater, Pragati Maidan, Delhi. 20th September 2006: Immensely impressed with "Live A Little", GREENOZONE re-released the debut album "Such A Long Time..." online thru their website. It's absolutely free of charge in every aspect. Greenzone has already released quite a few great albums by other Indian rock bands in the same manner before. However, with this, Still Waters becomes the first band ever, from the north-east, to have an online release. Another major feather in the cap added to the long list of achievements by the bad so far!!! 4th September 2006: http://www.greenzone.com comes up with an online compilation album called "Awake and Arise", dedicated to the victims of the recent bomb-blasts in Mumbai. "Live a little" has been selected as S.W's contribution to the album. It's the first song on the album which also features their peers and well known Indian bands like "Them Clones" (Delhi) and "Cassini's Division" (Kolkata). 14th February 2006: Still Waters “Live” in concert at the Misty Mountain Rock fest' with Parikrama(Delhi) and Cassini's Division (Kolkata). Organized by HOPE; the rehab' institute for the youth in/around Sikkim. Venue: T. N. Academy, school playground. The first gig ever in the absence of Suman Karthak, the original bassist. And sessions man, Tashi (from the band Mukti/Sikkim), "filling in" for him. 28th January 2006: Final verdict/confirmation regarding Suman's DEPARTURE from Stl_Wtrz'. HUGE set-back upon the full-throttle agenda and progress of the band...big time! Reason(s): Un-disclosed! 4th January 2006: Headlining act Still Waters "Live" in concert at the annual Losoong Fest-2006 (Sikkimese Buddhists' traditional New-Year). The first gig ever with a keyboardist, Pranav. Venue: Guards' Ground, Tathangchen, Gangtok. P.S: S.W never sounded this "tight" before! But on the flip side, this was the last concert with original bassist, Suman onstage!!! 20th December 2005: Pranav Lama, recruited as the NEW member / keyboardist of Stl_Wtrz' 11th - 13th December 2005: Annual Mangan Rock Fest' (Competition). Prelims on the11th and 12th Dec' and Finals on the 13th Dec' 2005. Venue: Mangan School Ground, Mangan, North Sikkim. Venue: M.G Marg, Gangtok, Sikkim. 07th November 2005: Dhanaulti Rocks Fest'2005. A fundraiser event for the earthquake victims of Kashmir. Venue: Dhanaulti, Uttaranchal. A week long fest' with great bands like Parikrama, Orange Street, Prestorika etc. performing one after the other. P.S: The new drummer Prayash's first ever gig with Still Waters and incident'ly the first one, for the band, without Netra(ex-drummer) in it's line-up. 13th August 2005: Still Waters “Live” in concert at JRO-2005 (Chennai) with L.B.G (Chennai) and WhitenoiZ (Bangalore).
