STIMULANS comes from Split, Croatia and in the last 2 years made a major step forward first by playing numerous well received gigs, as well as with the release of the acclaimed "No Words" demo in July 2005. The band's hopes for success lie in determination and hard work, without which surely nothing is possible. Coming from Croatia surely doesn't help when you're playing metal, but the band will hopefuly overcome that obstacle.
Stimulans consists of experienced musicians, who have been around in the local scene for the last ten years or so. The band was formed by Ivan Dabro (b) and Mario Culjak (g/v). In the early days, the band was a trio with the repertoire consisting mainly of (hard) rock covers they played for fun, with a few songs of their own. In 2002. Alen Djurasinovic became the new drummer and following that lineup change the band relied more on their own songs made in heavy metal manner, than on the hard rock covers. A somewhat distinctive style was obvious even in the first songs made by the main author Mario Culjak. When Ante Barisic, the second guitarist, joined the fold, the band soon realized they were in need of a promo recording. Due to various circumstances, it wasn't until the spring of 2004. when the band split amicably with Ante Barisic and found the well suited replacement in Darko Grubisic, that the recording has finally been finished. The first demo CD, titled simply Promo 2004 was released in May 2005. The promo's sound quality was not really top notch (to say the least), but it served its purpose - to let people hear our songs. The band proceeded to play the gigs with various local acts, as well as those with BLAZE and HELLOWEEN.
The second demo, titled No Words has been released in July 2005 and has a much better sound than the first one. The recording has been done by Darko with minimum funds available, but still managed to yield pleasing results. This demo consists of four songs (Sacrifice, Dust The Road, Train and No Words), with the first three actually being re-recorded and updated versions of songs from the first demo.
The demo shows everything Stimulans is about: lots of melody, passionate delivery and a desire to jump out of the classic heavy metal cliche a bit, while still retaining its essence.
