In 2007 Hayes Carll realized his goal of bringing a songwriter based festival to the Bolivar Peninsula on the Gulf Coast of Texas. Sadly, in September of 2008, Bolivar took a direct hit from Hurricane devastating much, but, not all of the area. After much hard work Bolivar is coming back to life. The landscape is clearly changed as many houses and businesses were blown away. But the spirit of the area is alive and well.
However infrastructure and resources are still limited. So this year the Stingaree Festival is going to be a little different. We are going to provide music on the Saturday of the 24th annual Texas Crab Festival. May 30th. We will also do a cleanup project that same morning. There are not enough resources available to effectively do both festivals so we have decided to tie in with the Crab Fest.
We are currently planning the roster of artists, accommodations and amenities and will post plans as soon as they are finalized. Please check back for updates.
We will also post updates on the efforts to rebuild the Bolivar Peninsula as well as ways that Stingaree Festival goers can become involved.
The Stingaree Music Festival provides fans of singer/songwriters an alternative to the hustle and bustle of mega festivals. “I have always wanted to do a music festival in Crystal Beach. It is where I got my start performing music. I only spent four and a half years on Bolivar but I made a lifetime of memories. There were three constants in all of them; the people, the music, and the Gulf of Mexico. My goal in throwing this festival is to bring those three together in one place and share them all with my friends.”
Proceeds from this year's festival will go towards building a new baseball field for the community.
aw, no Todd Snider this year? what a shame. even though the weather threatened to ruin last year's show and made Todd give is a VERY abbreviated performace, i'd sure like to try again. :sigh: maybe next year. GL to ya!
Nice line-up, but it looks like it is short on performers of the female persuasion. Nice to see Bonnie Bishop on the roster, but we sure could use a few more. I sure would like to see Romi there again. She was one of last year's crowd favorites.
Dammit, I'm all for doing this again, but John has to keep his clothes on. If Romi wants to get naked, I'm okay with that. Or the Sisters Morales. Or Jamie from The Gougers. Just not John!
