Behind that country and fresh-aired name hide two concert surveyors that all of a sudden decided one day to put some music on. Putting some music on but still, not considering themselves dj's.
Indeed, as that term generally implies technics, electro/techno music and some kind of mixer's stardom, the only thing that's important here is the public. Try and have them enjoy the party, mixing some good rock 'n roll in all its forms!
Going from the classics such as Cramps to more modern stuff such as The White Stripes, to Body Count's tougher music or Pogues's festive folk. Surf, punk, rock, grunge, metal. Just rock 'n roll.
They have already performed at the Bear Rock Festival, the "Maison de la Culture" in Namur, the "Maison des Jeunes" in Evelette and also during the final round of the Concours-Circuit metal part. And also this year at the Massacré Belges release party and at the Easy Way Festival.
Every performance is original as the folks mix one after another, improvising and losing control all the time ! Be prepared to some goddamn rock'n' roll discharge!
JOZEF VAN WISSEM will play in Liège two times on the same day! First at la Médiathèque (place de la Cathédrale, 14) at 3pm, free entrance. In the evening he'll play a longuer set in l'An Vert (rue Mathieu Polain, 4) with MADADAYO as support act, doors open at 8:30 pm.
Jozef Van Wissem is renowned for his unusual approach of the Renaissance and Baroque lute. He cuts and pastes classical pieces, reverses melodies, adds electronics and processed field recordings made at airport lounges and train stations. The unusual wedlock of composition and improvisation creates an unheard amalgam of contemporary folk and late Renaissance music. He has accomplished the strange feat of bridging the idiom of seventeenth century lute literature and twenty-first century composition. Although Van Wissem uses subtle electronic sound manipulation, he has largely stayed faithful to the particular timbre, resonance and playing technique of the lute. Van Wissem first came to be noticed a few years ago because of his radical conceptual approach to Renaissance lute music: he deconstructed existing compositions, for instance by playing them backwards. He also composes his own pieces for lute, using palindromes and mirrored structures.

KAYO DOT (hydrahead/tzadik, usa) "Kayo Dot powerfully integrates elements of modern classical composition with the layers of guitars and vocals more common to rock and metal. With a compositional map that is strict in form yet malleable in execution, Kayo Dot uses a vast array of instrumentation to create an exciting convergence of violence and serenity."
CJ BOYD (usa) "Equal parts ambient and virtuosic, melancholic and playful, CJ Boyd’s bass playing melts glaciers, creating a sea of low, flowing rhythms, while also supplying melodies that soar over the ocean to dizzy the sun in its path. Waves of bass loops are garnished with harmonica drones and constant improvisational exploration."
