About me: No.Fest was conceived in April, 2008 when Sean Ongley talked to Chad Ferguson about booking a bunch of bands in the neighborhood venue, Proper Eats. Chad introduced Sean to Jeffrey Helwig, who owned a gelato shop called Legong, just next door. They decided to have 2 venues and fill the whole day. Then Chad told Sean that the town square, down the block, is a community funded free space, and we need only to reserve it to hold an event. Thus, it was decided to make 3 stages of it, to be held on Summer Solstice that year. Sean brought KBOO on as a Co-Sponsor, offering a live broadcast from the square.
In those three months, the trio scrambled together a unique program, for all manner of performer. It spilled in to the Booksellers for literature based work; the noise artists contained in Legong, the jazz and rock distributed between the square and Proper Eats: all in all twenty-five performances and four venues. The event became known as No.Fest: Nu.Music.Arts, and on June 21st, 2008, the annual was born.
In November 2008, No.Fest began the brainstorm toward 2009. In January 2009, with the elevator of fiscal sponsorship, KBOO lifted No.Fest to a new level. This is a leap toward the recognition of No.Fest as a non-profit community organization. Chad stepped back from organizing, leaving Sean and Jeffrey to lead an ad hoc army of volunteers and pro-bono helpers. Now, we move toward June 27th, for our 2nd annual No.Fest: Nu.Music.Arts.
