Identical twin brothers “Mr. R.e.p” (often referred to as Repezent) and “QB-the Classic” (Quiet Boy) of Family Affair were born Jarrett and Jason Jones, respectively, on November 16,1985 to a single mother. They were raised on the North side of St. Louis, Missouri. Their family life was filled with a variety of music ranging from gospel to hip-hop. This early exposure to music led Jason and Jarrett to musical artistry as a form of expression.
In their youth, their mother worked long hours in an effort to make ends meet. Rep (Jarrett) and QB (Jason) were often left home alone, and their reliance on one another created an unbreakable bond between them.
During their early years, it was not unusual to find the brothers spending time in the streets with friends. Being surrounded by friends and influences that filled their lives with music and hip-hop culture, their interactions awakened the twins love for hip-hop. This love led to the creation of Family Affair.
The group began writing thought-provoking lyrics and adding them to head-bobbing beats. Shortly after graduating from high school, they began performing at local venues and recording their work.
Hip-hop heavy hitters including Outkast, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, and particularly Tupac influenced Family Affair. However, the young duo has created and defined a unique flavor. QB, the quiet, laid-back half of the duo, describes their style as a combination of a variety of 90's hip-hop artists; Rep, the more aggressive and edgy half, describes their style as "truthful poetry about city living".
Family Affair is gaining momentum. They have a strong growing fan base that refers to them as "the most anticipated rap duo to succeed in St. Louis". Their underground releases, "Family Affair", and their latest, "When They Wuz Sleeping", as well as various mix tapes have sold volumes in the thousands. In addition to impressive underground sales volumes, Family Affair has opened for the Isley Brothers, Murphy Lee of the St. Lunatics, Young Dro, Juelz Santana, the Clypes , and Rick Ross. Other accomplishments include: 2007 nomination for Best Duo in St. Louis (St. Louis Evening Whirl) ,Best Hip Hop/group in St.Louis (Riverfront Times) and features on over 40 different mixtapes. Increasingly requested by promoters, Family Affair continues to perform live throughout St. Louis and surrounding areas. Rep and QB's bold prediction is "You Go Love tha Family".
