Alex on drums
Alex has something of the Spinal Tap about him - breaking bones by kicking inanimate objects and shouting abuse at cream cakes. However, Alex is also an amazingly accomplished drummer, whose powerful tub-thumping drives the STML sound like an out-of-control speedboat through the loch of punk rock! Alex is the only member of the band who is an original Edinburger.
Dave on bass
Dave is the pretty boy of the band, and the other guys are secretly jealous. But don't tell him. Dave somehow ends up being chatted up at every gig - all eyes are on him as he takes the stage. He is also a remarkable, melodic bass player who is rarely satisfied with root note bass playing, or simple song structure. Dave was raised in Alloa. It shows.
John on lead guitar/rhythm guitar
John is the the quietest member of the band, a bit shy and introspective. Give him a guitar though, and you might need to step back as power riffs and screaming leads tear out from his amp. Although quiet, John has a sense of humour that is extremely evident in close company. He doesn't drink. At all. No, seriously. John was born in Chester, but grew up in Liverpool.
Iain on vocals, rhythm guitar/lead guitar
Iain is an island boy - born and raised on Lewis. He escaped the big city (ahem) lights of Stornoway for the peaceful surroundings of Edinburgh in the early nineties, and was soon foming bands and experimenting with his musical direction. It is Iain's disaffection with society and government that fuels the vitriol of the lyrics of STML's music. Iain also sometimes finds himself wielding a big stick to try to keep the rest of the band in line. It rarely works.

STML are an alternative rock band that sound somewhat like the big guitar style of The Queens of the Stone Age, Muse, and the Foo Fighters, mixed with the ferocious lyrical vitriol of Killing Joke and System of a Down. The result is a decidedly unpreachy socially aware rock without any trace of pretentious over-indulgence.
The songs are pure, honest, riff laden stabs of groove-based attitude. Incorporating big radio-friendly choruses, that are catchy enough to ensure you sing along, as you charge along the highway on your beloved motorbike, or skateboard. STML are based in Edinburgh where they practice in the crypt of a church, keeping the locals awake well into the small hours, as well as the dead!.
Reviews:
Wielding a cannon of hard hitting, radio friendly, hook laden, heavy riff rock thats been road tested and honed to a diamond hard perfection, they were pretty intent on giving up the goods.
Jori Kim: Stornoway gazette *****
STML are definitely worth checking out. Judging from the power driven riffs and big imaginative and poetic lyrical content, this is a band that you need to see
Rick Fulton: Daily Record
Edgy heavy rock, massive vocal sound, tasty guitar. Like a stadium version of the Wildhearts. Well worth catching live.
Dave Arcari: Perthshire Advertiser
STML have some balls to their dumb punky riffage
The list
STML came to the stage around 10;20, surrounded by the hype that followed their impressive E.P - despite the scant number of copies around campus. Performing with a slightly grungey, QOTSA vibe not appropriately conveyed by the record, STML (For "Whatever you want it to mean") played a strong set of tracks resembling an unholy bastard child of early 90's grunge (Without the moaning) and modern day, almost Muse-esque riffing, with 90's stoner rock getting more than a small look in.
