Stobo Village Ceilidh Band are a slightly more international than average, slightly wilder than average ceilidh band; in addition to the usual Scottish favourites (the Dashing White Sergeant, Strip the Willow etc.) We introduce our audience to dances and music from all over Europe, in particular France and the Balkans. Callers Martin Swan and Chan Ashmole vary the pace, encouraging and where necessary cajoling people onto the floor. The tempo and exercise level varies wildly, from stately French bourrees to a breakneck Flying Scotsman, and young and old dancers alike will find something they can get their feet into!
The band play an eclectic mix of tunes, mainly Scottish but also Scandinavian, French and Eastern European, all chosen for their irresistible danceability. With fiddle (Martin Swan) to the fore, the band also features accordion (Lewis Powell-Reid), whistle (Chan Ashmole), and tapan/Balkan big drum! (Fraser Watson).
The band have wowed audiences around the Borders with their style, speed, and great good humour …. so if you want a party with a difference, call the Stobo!
