The Beavers were formed in 1989 to perform a farewell gig to two friends who were emigrating to Canada, hence the name of the band. The gig was such a success that long time friends Graham (vocals) and Tim (guitar) decided to continue with the venture. The line up varied down the years, with Graham and Tim the constant members of the band, but the popularity of the band endured; gigs were performed to hundreds of ecstatic punters at Woodford, whilst outdoor gigs in Marple drew numbers running into the thousands.
After a sabbatical period, the current line up was put together in 1999. Joining Tim and Graham were Mark (guitar), Jack (bass), Nick (drums), Adrian (keyboards) and Robin (keyboards/vocals). Different line up, same success; The Beavers have played countless gigs over the last two years, from sweaty pub gigs to hundreds at The Deanwater Hotel and The Foyer Café Bar to outdoor gigs supporting Suzie Quatro. They played the annual summer ball for Stockport Rugby Club in summer 2003, supporting 80’s soul singer Ruby Turner, in front of 900 ecstatic punters. The band have also performed at many weddings and birthday parties, as well as corporate functions. Their gigs at Woodford Community Centre on the first Saturday of every new year are approaching legendary status these days!
The enduring appeal of The Beavers is the vast cross section of music they perform. Good old rockers by the likes of AC/DC, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy and Aerosmith sit comfortably alongside contempories such as U2, Coldplay and Franz Ferdinand. The recent gigs have seen The Beavers stretch their set list to include numbers by Kaiser Chiefs, Madness and The Zutons. The band have recently completed their second international gig, playing a summer festival in Herzogenaurach on the outskirts of Nuremburg in Bavaria.
The band have their own website at www.the-beavers.co.uk, where they display forthcoming gig information, latest news and photos, as well as videos and mp3's of the band in action. The website has just been updated to include a detailed report of the recent Germany gig.
