SUPER STOLIE: When I Grow Up
After more than a decade performing music professionally, Chicago songwriter, Stolie has directed her wit to a new demographic, and under a new moniker; Super Stolie celebrates the humility and hilarity of life in songs for KIDS! This collection of children’s songs features 11 original ditties like "Two Minutes" about how long to brush your teeth and "Kitties and Dogs," a rocker encouraging the adoption of pets so that our dreams of one day becoming veterinarians can be fulfilled. You'll also hear “The Unicorn,” written by Shel Silverstein and “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” the all-vocal song written by Bobby McFerrin and a 1 single from the late 1980’s. For the album, Super Stolie performs on guitar, piano, bass, djembe, harmonica, tambourine, and of course singing! But listen closely, and you might also hear her clapping her hands, walking in high heel shoes and making animal noises! Drums, strings, and everything else were realized with the help of Apple’s Garageband, the program with which Super Stolie recorded her album in her Chicago home.
"You have some really impressive songs on this disc. Of course, you know we just loved having you perform during our "Toddlin' Thursdays" event. "When I Grow Up" is proof that we definitely selected a perfect artist." - Denise Yelvington, Special Events Manager, Navy Pier, Chicago
"Delightful" - Tamara L. O'Shaughnessy, Chicago Parent
"We LOVE the CD! (Esp. my younger sister Stella- she's 4!)" - Alexa, 10
"Makes me feel like a kid, and happy to be livin'. Awesome." - Mike, a big kid
STOLIE: Between the Fake and Real
Out in March 2008, Between the Fake and Real is Stolie's first CD release in 4 years and features 13 previously-unreleased original songs that highlight Stolie’s wide-ranging, multi-genre-tapping songwriting ability. You’ll hear some pop, jazz, rap, latin, a little country, and of course - rock! On this album, Stolie performs on guitar, piano, bass, harmonica, tambourine and vocals. Everything else you hear (drums, effects, strings, etc.) she programmed with the help of Apple’s Garageband program. Between the Fake and Real is definitely a melodic album, so be prepared to sing along!
"There are some extraordinary tracks here." - Richard Milne, WXRT (Chicago)
"One of the most excellent eclectic efforts i have listened to in a long time, maybe forever." - Arthur Gonnick, WSPN (Saratoga Springs NY)
"When she focuses her prodigious talents (she played all of the guitar, piano and bass on the new disc, programming everything else with her computer) on endearingly skewed pop songs that keep the spotlight on her wispy vocals and literary eye for lyrical details, it's hard to deny that she's the real stuff." - Jim DeRogatis, Chicago Sun-Times
STOLIE: Satire Laden Melodies
"Satire..." combines Stolie's acoustic-written songs with elements of pop, hip-hop and trance. Stolie sings and plays guitar or rhodes keyboard on all tracks.
STOLIE: Stolie
"The quick and easy comparison just might be Jewel. However, where Jewel is whiny and irritating, Stolie is soulful and insightful. Her songs aren't as poppy or as repetitive; they have meat and a life of their own." - InMusicWeTrust.com
Stolie's world of music began when she was six and started piano lessons. At sixteen, she learned two chords on the guitar and wrote her first original song.
While attending Illinois Wesleyan University as a Music Education major, Stolie realized her desire to perform, switched her major to English to work on writing (songwriting, that is) and studied a year abroad in London where she began performing at folk clubs and for loose change in the Tube. Twelve years later, Stolie has released four albums of original music; her latest, Between the Fake and Real, has been featured on WXRT in Chicago.
Stolie has worked as a publicist and radio promoter for Bloodshot Records and Call Girl PR, toured the country in support of her original music, plays in two acoustic duos (The Acoustic Sideshow with Scott Schaefer plays covers and as Stolie & Gonzalez with Gina Gonzalez performing all originals), teaches guitar and piano lessons, plays weekly children's shows at Fantasy Kingdom as well as private events and birthday parties, is currently host to three weekly open mics and most recently started working as a wedding DJ for Cage & Aquarium Productions. Stolie is Chicago's Musical Renaissance Woman!
Stolie’s first CD of original music in 4 years is available now at live shows, at www.cdbaby.com or search for “Stolie” on iTunes!
