Just mention transition, they’ve been through it. Stonebay is now a band with fresh sounds and fresh faces. As long as their song writing is concerned, they are now bilingual, to better express themselves comfortably in different places.
From the humble beginnings of entering battle of the bands impressing the judges to rocking out at one of the nation’s biggest rock concert, Stonebay bites!
Be it an acoustic or amplified set, this band will savour your thirst to rock. After a drastic change of band members, Stonebay didn’t lose their tightness in performing as well as composing. Many bands would have had a hiatus in order to find new members and have difficulties generating new ideas, but not them. They kept going and growing in many positive ways.
If you still remember, sometime in 2006, the song “Name” came to being, which catapulted Stonebay in the music scene. The aggressive guitar, the melody hook and not forgetting the deep, baritone of the vocalist, Name is now still a major favourite to Stonebay’s old and new friends. Here to remind you all, Stonebay prefers calling their fans as friends, due to the bands close interaction with them and also to eliminate any form of formalities when interacting.
The brainchild of the band would be Ojie, who is the guitarist/vocalist. Ojie is a Sabah native who is heavily influenced by 70’s music and 90’s alternative rock era. It’s impossible not to notice him because he sports a long wavy hair that suits his colourful personality. A very passionate man, many would agree that Ojie’s talent is immense and has tremendous potential. He truly has what a frontman needs. His pleasant demeanour also helps the band in going further since he knows how to keep a good relationship with the new friends and associates that they got.
Another guitarist in the band is Ashroff, who grooves with his beret while playing the guitar on stage. Ashroff who used to be a skater boy, met Ojie three years ago, expressing his interest in the music that Ojie makes, but little did he know that he would end up being in the band. Often spontaneous, Ashroff never fail to be the one who adds a little flavour in the songs. He’s got skills that will make many people envy, but he’s still aiming for more. In the band, he also shares the song writing duties together with Ojie.
Roni, is the bassist of the band, often seen as the quiet one. But once he gets on stage, his shyness just sheds off. In the band he is considered the joker, cracking jokes during tense song writing process in the studio but his attention to details makes Stonebay’s sound more salient. The fact that he is an Indonesian proves that Stonebay is a band that gets together for the love of music, and with different culture to share; Stonebay is rich when it comes to diversity.
Stonebay is incomplete without a drummer, and who else would it be if not Velan. He’s energetic and charismatic but never over rated. He’s got a very fine precision in drumming and that gives him the extra edge. Velan’s skills are not only restricted to drumming, he’s also got talent for being the most photogenic in the band.
If you happen to watch Stonebay perform live, be ready for a great time knowing that Stonebay has a marvellous stage presence. You’ll be asking for more, and before you know it, you’ll be stuck at their myspace page.
In case you’ve been in outer space, you would know by now that they have a new single out titled “ Sangsi” which been on the radio for quite sometime now.
With just a little bit of patience, you will have a taste of Stonebay’s album that is on the works now and it should be out in the later half of 2008.
Stonebay uses and abuses JUNCTION Amps.
