STONEY AND THE HOUSE ROCKERS
"CRUISIN' FOR A BLUESIN"
BLUES FEVER PRODUCTIONS
BY PETER "BLEWZZMAN" LAURO © FEBRUARY 2008
Blues Editor @ www.Mary4Music.com

On "CRUISIN' FOR A BLUESIN", Stoney and The House Rockers' debut CD, the band not only steps it up a few notches, but they shine while doing it... Fourteen very well done originals...

The title track describes something that I'm constantly doin', and that's "CRUISIN' FOR A BLUESIN". This one features the band in a soft but very tight groove backing up STONEY'S smooth vocals and sharp harpin'. TONY & MARK get in some nice guitar and piano highlights as well.

"TWO TIMIN' WOMAN" is a smoker that will even get the wallflowers movin' & groovin', and ANDRE & TOMMY would be the reasons for that. This one features some of the disc's best rhythm, making it impossible to be still. Of course STONEY gets his share of hot harp blowin' in there as well.

"TV DON'T CUT IT" features excellent vocals and good blues harp by STONEY, and the band is in a very smooth and jazzy jam behind them. What a nice blend on this very well done track.

"ONE STEP AT A TIME" will have you thinking you're listening to STONEY MARLEY AND THE JAMAICAN JUKES. The band gets big kudos for the great Reggae sound they've perfected on this one.... The magic these guys are working extends right into the next track, a superb instrumental titled "TRIBUTE TO TOOTS". Unquestionably, musically two of the discs best.

Pardon the pun, but "ICEMAN" is such a cool track. Once again, the band locks into a soft and way smooth groove, this time highlighted by the ever so lightly touching of the piano keys by MARK, while STONEY sings his heart out on the vocals. Add to that some of STONEY'S best harp work and this one's the real deal.

There is no questioning STONEY'S sincerity as he says "THANK YOU" to the Lord. This is obviously the Gospel according to STONEY... this one's all about him and his Savior. The feeling he's putting out and the spirituality of his lyrics sent chills through this sinners body. STONEY, thank you for this song and this whole disc.

I've seen this band perform 30 - 40 times before, I'll now look at them with a whole new found respect. And the next time some very drunken, dart throwing, pool shooting, hoping to get lucky patron at one of their live gigs screams out for "FREEBIRD", I'll smile and think about "CRUISIN' FOR A BLUESIN"... Good job guys.

***More reviews:***
*By Christopher Hislop, Seacoast (NH) Spotlight Magazine October 09, 2008

Stoney himself has great vocal capabilities backed with stellar harmonica playing. He takes pride in letting his influences ooze from the instrument and he does so very tastefully all the while adding his own flavor to the mix. One of the better tunes on the record that showcase Stoney's versatility as a harp player is his ode to the great harmonica player Toots Thieleman, "Tribute to Toots." The tune also features an interesting acoustic percussion section, which the House Rockers spatter here and there throughout the entirety of the recording.

*************************

Stoney and The House Rockers is a rockin' five piece Blues and Funk band that will keep you on your feet groovin' to lotsa West Coast, Texas, and Chicago style blues and movin' to our Feel Good Funk... From the first downbeat to the last drop of sweat,

"It's Showtime, Baby!!!"

Each venue has its own format and style... Stoney and The House Rockers is well known for keeping everyone happy!!! You want it, we'll play it... Let's Dance!!!

Latest Reviews: Stoney Flying Solo... The Beachside Resident - July 2009

Stoney Flying Solo
By: Kimberly Stone
This month, Stoney of the famed Stoney and the House Rockers will be rocking the beach solo during a Tuesday residency at Long Doggers in Melbourne. Fresh off of a United Way benefit, Stoney plays the Space Coast — from Vero to Port Canaveral — with rave reviews for his incendiary solo act. He sings and blows his heavily-saturated Hohner harmonica over pre-recorded background music so you don’t miss the full-band effect of his songs. Whether it’s originals or covers, he’s sure to get you moving.
Sponsored by Island Music of Merritt Island, Stoney offers an excellent blend of Motown funk and R & B music that will get even the youngest music lover dancing. Stoney’s most recent shows have been at Long Doggers in Melbourne across from the King Center, and have turned out to be very family-friendly as Stoney works the crowd with his harmonica, often to many a young grom’s delight. And he isn’t afraid to throw in some Eagles, Elvis Presley or Willie Nelson to keep the older members of the crowd on their toes. For a fun family evening check out this jewel of the Space Coast.
Stoney has a CD entitled Cruisin’ for a Bluesin’, which is available now and has another recording in the works.... He’ll be appearing with the House Rockers Friday, July 10 at Matt’s Casbah (801 E. New Haven Ave; Downtown Melbourne; 574-1099) from 10 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., and Saturday, July 11 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Beach Shack (1 Minutemen Cswy.; Cocoa Beach; 783-2250). To sample and purchase his original hits check out his website: www.myspace.com/stoneyandthehouserockers...

You need to check out the new Victoria "Blowbox" Harp amp! I was instrumental in designing and getting into their line of top shelf amps. Go to youtube and search me "James Reeser" and there are a couple of recent vids featuring it.

It is a 45 watt 2X8 amp. It looks like a tweed head but yes it has 2 8" speakers in it. No one can believe such a fat rich tone comes from a little amp. It is versatile... light weight... It can be plugged into any speaker cab as it has 2, 4 and 8 ohm output taps. It also has a switch that makes it either a stock 59 Bassman if that is your tone (also for guitar if desired) or flip the switch for the harp special circuits and rich fat harp tone! And yes has plenty of power as a stand alone to keep up with just about any band.

Hello Stoney.

Hope all is well.
Sounds like you and your guys had a bunch of fun in Memphis (hard not to have fun in Memphis).

The Yank Rachell Tribute CD went to number #2 on the Roots & Blues charts last week (not sure where it is this week). Very cool! I'm sure Yank is smiling.
Check out www. yankrachell. com for more info on the benefit CD (all proceeds benefit Yank's family, specifically Sheena who has been ill). There is a myspace page up for the project as well. Add to your friends (from my friends on my page).
Have a great weekend Stoney.
Good Blues to you!
Cheers,
Duff.
