The Untold Story of Stoney Slue
Here it is folks - the answer to many of your questions - "Where did you get the name Stoney Slue?" First let me ask you one question; have you ever lived or been in a place that you hold dear to your heart and all those fond memories are reflected in your life in a positive manner? "Stoney Slue" is actually a location nestled away in the northern plains. Many, many years ago this low lying land was used for cattle grazing. Then one day a small fresh water spring started saturating the area. Stones were removed from the surrounding famlands and dumped in this area preventing the cattle from entering the soaked land. Years pass by and the spring continued to fill the low area with water drawing all types of wildlife. The waters' boundaries grew from being a small body of water to a lake several miles long, creating a tributary to neighboring farmlands used for watering and irrigation. For many years, unknown to others, waste products were being dumped into the lake by a bordering neighbor. Eventually the lake became contaminated rendering it useless to mankind and wildlife. "Stoney Slue" had become quite valuable to this part of the country providing rich pasture land, irrigation water, recreation, both summer and winter, and yes, you guessed it, that Saturday night bath after being in the field all week. With much determination on the farmer's part, but mostly due to the fact that this is a body of water fed by a fresh water spring, the lake found its' way back to normalcy. Today "Stoney Slue" stands pure and clean and has been for many years - a wildlife preservation. Now you have the true story behind "Stoney Slue".
