Stony Plain Records is a record company based in Edmonton, Alberta, a culturally diverse city on the edge of Canada’s prairies, but one that rarely shows up on the music industry radar. The label specializes in what its founder calls roots music: Contemporary music with roots in the past that stands on its own, but which influences almost all the pop music you hear around you.
Established in 1976, the label has released over 300 albums of blues, classic R&B, folk, country, bluegrass, rock and roll, and music that is impossible to put into neat pigeonholes. The common element in all of these forms of music is that the musicians, regardless of current fad or fashion, put their hearts and souls into the music they make. Stony Plain released the results – and almost invariably found that people responded.
Ian Tyson has been one of Canada's most distinctive songwriters for more than 40 years. Since the early '60s, he has created a spectacular body of work - and now a distinguished group of Canadian and American artists have recorded some of his classic songs for a tribute album in his honour. "The Gift: A Tribute To Ian Tyson" is available in Canada now, with Worldwide release coming this Autumn, and features performances from Blue Rodeo,
Jennifer Warnes, one-time Byrd Chris Hillman, Gordon Lightfoot and rowdy Alberta renegade Corb Lund.
Maria Muldaur's new album, called "Naughty Bawdy & Blue" is out now. This video, courtesy of American Music Research Foundation, Ron Harwood Producer, www.AMRF.net, illustrates Maria's fantastic rendition of Victoria Spivey's One Hour Mama.

Hey just wanted to say that one of the highlights of the musicfest in Courteney this year for me was the interview with Amos and Geoff hosted by Holger. Really a treat to listen to stories and commentary from these gentlemen. Also cool to see and hear Holger, great job! Hope you have time to listen to a bit of my music one day. I'll try and change the songs up on my page from time to time. Cheers!
