STOP DARTH WEINSTEIN
is a grassroots movement founded by a consortium of angry Star Wars fans who don't want to see FANBOYS, the first and only feature film about Star Wars fans, ruined before it's even released! We are in no way affiliated with the filmmakers or with the the Weinstein Company (obviously).
PLEASE JOIN THE REBELLION!
Who I'd like to meet: The viewpoints expressed on this page do not necessarily reflect those of the entire 501st Legion!
They do, however, express the opinion of most actual Fanboys!
Time to fire up the converters, R2! We have a film to save again!
HELP US GET FANBOYS SHOWN IN YOUR CITY
If you've followed what's going on with Fanboys, you will know that it's being released in the US on February 06, 2009. If you didn't, well, you know now.
The thing is, the Weinstein Company chose to only release it in 40 theaters in 8 cities initially. These cities are:
::: Austin, TX ::: Chicago, IL ::: Houston, TX ::: Los Angeles, CA ::: New York, NY ::: Philadelphia, PA ::: San Francisco, CA ::: Seattle, WA
Word is that it will expand to more cities and theaters if it does well in these eight cities. We're asking you to please help us make that happen. Here's what you can do:
1) Tell everyone you know who lives in or near those eight cities to watch the movie in the theater the week it opens.
2) E-mail the Weinstein Company to let them know you would like to see Fanboys open in more cities that just a pitiful eight.
3) Spread the word. Post about this on forums you go to--IMDb, Star Wars forums, movie message boards or blogs, Facebook, MySpace, LiveJournal. Anything goes. Tell your friends and family. Word of mouth is a powerful thing.
4) If you know any portals or websites that might be interested in publishing an article about the movie or this campaign, alert them. Feed them with information. Make it happen.
If we get enough people to voice their opinion, we might just get the Weinstein Co. to listen and put the movie out there for everyone to see. So, shoo! Get out there and make your voice heard!
As abusive as the response was from Steve Brill, I am glad I e-mailed him about not having the film booked by my (rather large) theatre chain. I saw that the e-mail and unprofessional response appeared on several websites. I am very happy that I could help and am very proud that we actually accomplished the goals set forth by all the people at "Stop Darth Weinstein."
Thanks for organizing this site guys! Congratulations and good job!
Kyle Newman will be on this week's Forcecast (TheForce. net weekly podcast), talking about Fanboys and being back on Skywalker Ranch. Tune in at 8 PM EST this Wednesday (July 9, 2008).
On another note, they're putting final touches to the movie and it's also been confirmed that the cancer storyline is included in the final FINAL cut of the film. Yay!!! And I believe that without the protests and you guys coordinating them, the Weinsteins would never have buckled. Kudos to everyone who helped protesting! :-D
You all hear that Darth Weinstein threatened the Speaker of the House that he wouldn't fund Democratic Candidates down the ticket if she didn't accept his offer to fun the re-votes in Florida and Michigan? Yep at all costs no matter how popular Obama is Hillary must win... whatever... this guys has some cojones!
