"Piano rock has become a pretty crowded genre over the past few years, so getting noticed among the pack has become that much harder over time. Whether a band wants to create driving songs or soothing ballads, they need to be sure to do it in the best way possible to garner due attention. Musically, Stop Motion Poetry lies somewhere in between those two styles, creating soothing, well-structured piano-centric pop tunes that don’t quite slip into balladry, yet still retain..."
"Relatively rare is the album that is notably well-engineered without being overly mechanized. This Modesto quartet's EP, "The Revolver Recordings," is just such an offering..."
The following is based loosely on possibly factual information:
In February of 1986, on the same day (not the same year) Abraham Lincoln
was born, Clark Beggs was born in a small town in Tennessee. Emerging
from the womb with an entire Steinway piano in his hand, (he was a strong
lad) his parents decided to put him into gymnastics classes. Every day for
two years Clark Beggs begged his parents to let him play the really nice
piano that took up so much space in the living room. It wasn’t until May of
the 2nd year that Clark’s younger brother Devin was born with a Fender Jazz
bass in his hand that Clark’s parents decided to let the two boys form a band.
The band stayed together for seven years. Shortly after the seventh year
their third brother, Spencer was born with an entire Yamaha drum set,
complete with Zildjan cymbals ---- in his hand. Unfortunately there was no fourth brother birthed. If only this had been true. The Beggs’ brothers were really tired of being compared to the Jaundice Brothers (however it’s spelled).
Now we’re getting in to 100% factual information:
For SMP’s Beggs, music is an autobiography written in a language more felt
than understood. While many of his lyrics are deeply personal, they have an
ability to connect with and uplift the listener. SMP's music is about ordinary
people helping each other out, trying hard not to screw up relationships or
miss the beauty in a world that is often all too scary and angst-ridden.
SMP has teamed up with co-writer and legendary producer, Mikal Blue,
whose most recent contribution to the music world is his production of
Colbie Caillat's platinum CD Coco (a few of Blue's other recent clients
include: One Republic, Five For Fighting, Augustana, Brendan
James, Jason Reeves, Kevin Hammond, and Carrie Underwood). "We have
an unbelievably trusting relationship with Mikal,” says Clark Beggs. “We
complement each other, and whether we bring to his studio a very vulnerable
rough version of a song or a nearly completed song, together we make each
song grow." The first three tracks of SMP's and Mikal's collaboration are: A
Walk Outside, A Vow, and On Your Feet.
The band recently recorded 4 more tracks: first, a re-recording of a
previously recorded song “North” as well as 3 new tracks: “Break Your Fall,”
“The Hit,” and “Meaning.”
Back from the last session to record drums was Victor Indrizzo (Beck, Alanis
Morissette, and Avril Lavigne), and guitarist Greg Suran (Sunny Day Real
Estate, Goo Goo Dolls, American Idol, and The Firetheft).
Even more recently Beggs recorded two songs with Justin Knox (Mikal Blue, I
Hate Kate, and Sarah Kelly). The tracks titled “All My Tomorrows” and
“Opposite Sides of the Moon” were both tracked at Knox Song Labs
(www.myspace.com/knoxsonglabs).
The band’s forthcoming album, yet to be titled, is nearing completion, so
keep your eyes peeled for more information.
