...Long list: amateur astronomy, am. radio, genealogy, am. photography, weather (storm spotting, storm chasing), following the space program, watching my cats, picking on my cats, laughing at my cats, laughing at how my cats pick on me...

I'm the founder and Coordinator of ALACHUA COUNTY SKYWARN, a local public service organization which teaches people how to spot the signs of severe weather and how to properly report them to the NWS and to local authorities. I'm also Creator/Project Manager/Coordinator of the ALACHUA COUNTY EMWIN PROJECT, which allows us to send free emergency weather bulletins to pagers, cellphones, email, fax, etc., as a public service. I'm very proud of these two public service programs and the good that they do for the local people.

I also run some popular web pages. If you travel often, and you use a scanner or a radar detector, then you've probably run across my web page, Mobile Scanner & RADAR-Detector Laws In The United States. It lists all the state laws banning or restricting the use of scanners or RDs. Up until the 9-11 incident in NYC and DC - I kid you not - my pages used to get a quarter-million hits a year! Not the NASA web page, but pretty good for just a PERSONAL web page! Since then, I guess people got really paranoid. :(

I run a number of other minor web pages, too, dealing with my various other interests.

    I'm a sci-fi fan.

Trying to learn how to cook. I'm not a gourmet chef by any means. I try to learn one thing at a time and try to get that down; and then I move on to something new.

A little more about me can be had from here.

I also have a FaceBook page, too.

  • Music

Allllllll KINDS - fairly eclectic tastes...from heavy metal to classical. ...Including: AC/DC, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith, Alan Parsons Project, America, Asia, The Beatles, Pat Benetar, Boston, David Bowie, Edie Brickett & The New Bohemians, The Cars (their earlier stuff), Celine Dion, Peter Cetera, Chicago, Phil Collins, Sheryl Crow, The Cure, Def Leppard, Dire Straights, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Eurythmics, Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner, The Frey, Peter Gabriel, Genesis, INXS, Journey, Led Zeppelin, Annie Lennox, (some) Madonna, Moody Blues, Alanis Morissette, Stevie Nicks, Ozzy Osborne, Steve Perry, Tom Petty, Pink Floyd, The Police, Rush, Santana, Seal, John Secada, Steely Dan, Steve Miller Band, Sting, Supertramp, Toto, U2, Van Halen, Lee Ann Womack, Yah, as you can see...a lot of 80s in there. :)

Not much of a country fan; and I'm not hot about RAP.

  • Movies

I like all sorts of movies: comedy, romance, action/adventure, mystery, etc. Even old Cary Grant movies. :) I could leave a list here like everybody else but I don't want people to know how many rediculous thousands I've actually spent on useless, unedible videos. LOL!
  • Television

Sci-fi: Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Star Trek (whatever variant). Also Charmed, Desperate Housewives, Ellen Degeneres, Home Improvement, Miami Vice, Scrubs, Sex & The City, Gilmore Girls (do people REALLY talk that fast in real life?)...and I'm not admitting ANY more to you because you probably ALREADY think I'm weird (for a guy) for actually WATCHING some of these shows! :o)
  • Books

Jonathan Livingston Seagull - Richard Bach; anything Shakespeare - WITHOUT Cliffnotes! - just for the mental workout; anything Jane Austen - for the emotional workout; I ATE Jonathan Livingston Seagull! - by Richard Bach's Cat...
  • Heroes

Coln. Jack O'Neill of Stargate SG-1. A fantasy character of course (played by Richard Dean Anderson [ex-MacGyver, birthday 1/23]), but one whom I have to admit I admire and someone whom I wish I could be. I always wish I could be that chivalrous, that brave, that calm in the face of threats, that adult, and that child-like, and have such a awesome sense of humor. A couple of my most favorite quotes comes from him. My MOST favorite one goes: "So when your back's up against the wall and there's no tomorrow, just take one day at a time, and remember the bigger they are, et cetera." Another goes: (mocking typical end-of-scene suspense music)... "DUH-duh-duh-duhhhhhh.....DUH-duh!" In life, I am CONSTANTLY repeating this one. :)

Martin Luther King. (Birthday 1/15.) Civil rights leader. ...The Golden Rule, man. ...Live it.

William Shakespeare. In his Sonnets he wrote much about friendship...though it can all be applied just as well to any relationship. My favorite of course, is Sonnet 116: "Let me not to the marriage of true minds admit impediments..."

Galileo. Persecuted because some people didn't like his ideas. Placed under house arrest for the rest of his life for speaking about what he believed in. Reputation destroyed. His life's works laid unimportant by his persecutors. After all that, he STILL believed in God, anyway. As if that wasn't enough, it took those same people *500 years* to apologize; and even then, it wasn't an "apology", but a "pardon". The Church wasn't the one with any right to pardon. Galileo's family and descendants, if anyone, should have had that right to decide...if the CHURCH was worthy of one.

I have to include some of my favorite comedians, too, because a sense of humor is so important: Tim Allen, Bobcat Goldthwaite, Sam Kinison, Caroline Rhea...

Blurbs

About me:

WHY didn't I just take the BLUE pill?! (Anybody who knows my life knows what I mean, here. :o))

Konnichiwa! Ogenki desu-ka! Watashi-wa Todd desu!

("Hi. How are you? I'm Todd.")

I'm a ..nice.. ..gullable.. ..okay guy.. total moron & I'll do anything to try to make the next person comfortable and at ease - even if it means spilling my O.J., too, accidentally-on-purpose. I try to make it a point to be kind to others. ...Always. I don't like to be mean. It's really hard for me to be. That's another language to me. I'm kind of shy at first, but then my sense of humor comes out and I open up.

I love animals. I'm even owned by a cat named 'Muffin' who fills my food bowl regularly and treats me well.

Muffin's favorite quote: "A friend in need is a pest." :)

I don't smoke (USED to, but I quit - 5 years ago, now [as of 2009]); but I'll drink to be social. Although I don't drink much, otherwise. I have a ..weird.. great sense of humor, I'm not afraid to be silly, and I try to find humor in everything around me. I refuse to be older than 20-something. I'm a total klutz. I can prove it.

My job? It's a government job. I drive around all day, all over the county (sometimes surrounding counties, too) through all the back roads, seeing places I didn't know existed in my own home playground, meeting new people, seeing new places, and I get PAID for it, and for the mileage.

Trying to learn how to cook. However, while I seem to have undercooking and overcooking down to a T, "perfection" is proving to be somewhat of an "elusive"; and so, I guess this makes me a total dork. :) But I'm learning and I like it. It's fun.

Not particularly religious. Don't consider myself a member of any particular faith or belief. However, I am not opposed to anyone believing in whatever they wish. I practice relgious tolerance. I won't restrict or sacrifice a friendship because you don't believe in my ways. I respect and appreciate a lot of the eastern religions, though, because I tend to agree with a lot of their philosophies. I simply believe in treating people kindly and fairly, period. Our time here on earth is SO short. And the things we do to each other, the things we say to one another...have real effects. So we should treat each other with respect, understanding, and kindness right NOW, not tomorrow...or after we die. See my blog for more on that philosophy (under "MY TAO").

ANCESTRY: German / French-Acadian / English / Scottish. One antecedent was a shared nurse/servant between the Norths and the Rendleshams in the UK. Another secretly boated fleeing slaves from the South to the North hidden in his boat during the Civil War. Another snuck them south. (sigh) Another founded Howell Town Ironworks (now Allaire State Park) in New Jersey. Our MARCHE ancestors lived directly across the street from the (Philip) Freneau family. One family legend has it that our Tolmie ancestors "baked the Last Duke of Edinborough's wedding cake." (pfbt! ...Family legends, man! I swear. I dunno.) However, I've never been able to prove that one. ...A conversationally interesting family history at any rate. :)

My friends list isn't that huge because I don't believe in that "accept anybody you don't know" philosophy. Not here for the numbers. The people you see? I KNOW them.

Who I'd like to meet:

...Just nice, genuine people. Period. People without agendas. People without want of something from me. People who don't put conditions on friendships. People who follow thier own path. People who don't cave to peer pressure or similar pressure. People who can deal with a guy with a silly sense of humor and who isn't afraid to be stupid, now and then. People who are fun. People who are interesting. People who don't roll their eyes every time I act stupid. That's just me. If having fun cramps your style, it's best to stay away because at some point I probably WILL ruin that impression you're tryin to make with that ...piece of a.... chicola you're tryin to get. I promise. :)
