    Stormy Records's Interests
Generalfrom early 2007 - this week has been a sad one for us. our beloved Alice Coltrane has passed away. she joined john on friday, january 12th, 2007. alice was an innovator in this world, both through her music and in the way she brought spiritualism into the lives of those who listened to her. alice was soft spoken and full of meaning. she was a gentle and strong soul, continuing to be a beautiful woman and raise a family, AND write and record incredible music in the midst of losing her one true love, john. alice put words to the feelings carl and i had about music, about the underlying conditions that inspire us to create. we looked up to her in many ways because of what she said and the music she made, for all the beautiful ideas she represented, and for being herself through all of her life.

we were lucky to have seen her perform in sept of 2006, and almost went to the other 2 shows later in the fall in california and new jersey. we should have gone to the lecture she held on the university of michigan campus the day before her show at hill auditorium, because maybe there we could have made a personal dream come true - we could have met her, and looked into her eyes, and thanked her for all that she has brought us in our lives. carl and i will miss alice. she was a very special person on this earth. now we need to simply be thankful she left us with so many memories and gorgeous pieces of music to remember her by.

pitchfork wrote a very nice piece about alice this week. you can read it here - http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/feature/40494/Universal_Mother

stormy records is a store where music matters. we are here to help you find music that is worth your time. i have only ever sold records for a living - i'm coming up on 19 years of the same work everyday - 19 years of helping people find new music that is great and worth their time. carl has always been just as fanatical about music, and we have our shop because there is a need for what we do. we support the musical community here. we carry great music, we pass out flyers, we have posters for upcoming shows, and we have daily discussions with our customers about all of the above. stormy records is a place to learn and share, a true community atmosphere in which to interact with other music lovers. when you stop by you'll understand we are not like other music stores these days - we are like the record shops from when you were young. that is what we want here - that feeling of excitement and discovery, of a trip to the record store being an occasion to remember.

besides that, when you stop by our lovely corner of the world, you can also visit green brain comics. they have the area's best selection of independent and small press comics. and they share the same ethics we do - so we have become a collective of sorts, providing arts and culture in our community. it's pretty cool what people can do when they work together!!

Who I'd like to meet:
unfortunately, they are mostly dead. jim henson, jacques cousteau, all the great musicians who have come before us.... now living would be david attenborough, the naturalist. so few people in this world love their work as much as he does. makes a big difference to be that happy....

I believe in the future of hip hop. I believe in the musical future of hip hop...it's been my passion and dream to witness hip hop evolve musically in mainstream music.

MIXED METER BEATS, unsteady beats...an odd flow.

Why hasn't this blown up yet?

It may not exactly be what the market demands, but hip hop musically demands it. It would revolutionize the art-form and create a completely new genre.

Unsteady beats, true talent rapping over it...it's the only original things left to do...

Sigh...

I just want to watch this happen so hip hop can continue to grow musically.

Sincerely,

Andrew
